The poll, released on May 30 by Atlas Intel, found Pete Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, and former transportation secretary in the Biden administration, to be the top pick among Democrats who responded to the survey.
A total of 31.5% of self-identified Democrats who responded to the poll said they would vote for Buttigieg for president in four years, according to the poll.
Other surveys in May from firms such as Echelon Insights and McLaughlin & Associates have found Harris in first place in the hypothetical primary, making Atlas Intel’s poll stand out among the rest.
Harris is the third most popular pick among Democrats in the poll, falling behind U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y.
AOC.
American society has demonstrated, twice, that it prefers a mentally retarded duck to a woman, perhaps we should take note.
Hey, remind me, what place did kamala get in the primary against Joe Biden in 2020? Oh wait, she dropped out because she was literally the most divisive and least popular candidate. Elizabeth Warren was like fucking 3rd. I still have her “billionaire tears” mug. Which was a strategy she was told to tone down because she was offending the rich donors.
Yes, the worst, most divisive female neoliberal warhawks lost. DNC candidates truly suck.
American society has demonstrated twice that it prefers a retarded duck to a neoliberal woman.
And until neoliberals have another corpodem woman on their bench, women conveniently can’t win.
They’re holding back all women to stop one progressive woman.
Those women were specific individuals with specific flaws.
While the man running against both women has no flaws, never lies, and is 6’3" 224lbs.
I’m not saying a woman cannot be president. I’m saying I don’t have faith the American public will elect a female president at this point in time.
Dude, fuck off
Idk if you want this to be your mindset. It’s dangerous and can lead to collapse. This is the start of a potential snowball into total mistrust of the society towards the government. Just look at this as an exception like your darkest days.
God I hate that this is true.
AOC should be the first choice. Buttigieg is not in tune with lower and middle-class America. However, he is a former Naval Intelligence officer and he is not an idiot.
I’ve seen interviews with him, I think definitely don’t think he’s an establishment Democrat. Him with AOC as VP would be a progressive ticket, at least as far as the US would go.
Wall Steet Pete worked for McKinsey on grocery pricing in Canada. Recommend you head over to lemmy.ca to see how that’s going.
That’s a stretch there. He consulted for Loblaws on behalf of McKinley for about 6 months almost 20 years ago, and hell knows, they weren’t bringing some outside junior analyst (he was in his 20s) in on the bread price fixing scheme they’d been running for 15 years already.
This is some conspiracy level shit.
AOC
Can we clone her so she can run for President, and Schumer’s seat at the same time?
The 2016 and 2024 elections have shown us that Americans would rather let Trump win than vote for a woman.
AOC isn’t popular enough outside of her fan base to win a national election.
Hillary Clinton won the popular vote.
And she was Hillary Clinton. Imagine what you could do with someome that doesn’t campaign with Henry Kissinger and have Bill Clinton as a husband.
True! I didn’t mention that because there’s no need to over-argue. When this specious idea that American voters would never choose a woman for President comes up, it’s sufficient to point out that American voters chose a woman for President in 2016. Done, argument disposed of.
DNC partisans only seem to bring it up to try to tank the potential candidacy of center-left women like Ocasio Cortez, perhaps because she might win. Sanders pulled between 6 and 12% of his support in 2016 from Republican voters; that would’ve been more than enough to win the swing states and the electoral college vote. He and AOC are now out there stirring up excitement from that same crowd.
And, really, am I to believe that if the GQP nominated, say, Noem in 2028 that it’d make a damn bit of difference to its base that she’s a woman?
If that’s the lesson you learned from those elections then you’re not paying as much attention as you think you are.
Or they just don’t want one woman in particular to run.
I realize that is a popular opinion here on lemmy.
But, you don’t seem to realize that lemmy doesn’t reflect what American voters vote for.
Maybe stop supporting people who rig primaries in favor of establishment candidates then. The last progressive candidate we ran (Obama) won handily twice in a row. Your guys have barely eked out one win out of three against a modern day Hitler. One would expect a better track record behind the level of dogmatic certainty you 90s Republicans display.
Before Obama, Bill Clinton won two terms in a row.
Bill Clinton is not progressive. This would indicate the two term win wasn’t related to the progressive stance.
There are plenty examples of progressives winning primaries and losing elections. And progressives politicians are pretty rare to begin with. This shows how few American voters actually lean left.
Hillary stole the primary from Bernie because she had invested in the DNC for her own self gain, sure. But that doesn’t mean Bernie would’ve won the election.
Bill Clinton ran populist left in 1992, including running on sweeping labor reform and Universal Healthcare. The thing he went economically right on was NAFTA and that nearly killed him with Perot. He swung hard right with “triangulation” after the election (like Obama)
In 1996 he ran against Bob Dole.
What you don’t seem to realize is that in 2016 more American voters voted for Clinton. It’s a popular opinion here on Lemmy, and statistically, the majority of voters also believe that, so I guess that makes you wrong.
It’s a popular opinion on lemmy that democrats should’ve known that Hillary couldn’t beat Trump. Yet she got the popular vote.
This is another example of lemmy not reflecting what actual voters choose.
Please don’t pick ass kisser of the year Pete Buttigieg. Dude is just another corporate cuck.
I guess that all depends on who else runs. If it’s just a bunch of standard establishment Democratic neolibs, then sure, let’s go with the one who knows how to talk. Of course, if that’s what the entire field looks like, then we’ll be back to getting wiped off the map again in 2032.
More than that. His dad is one of the translators of Antoni Gramsci to English language. He is well educated in how capitalist states use cultural hegemony to maintain power and chose to serve the ruling class interests.
The most effective capitalists are the ones who have seen behind the curtain
Do you have any actions that he has done to support those claims? This is my first time hearing of this.
Working for McKinsey & Company would be a big sign of it. His time as Mayor included a bunch of business friendly and privatization of city properties and demolition of housing.
Essentially he represents the wing of the party that shows deference to corporate tech companies: which is essentially the status quo of the ruling class. He is of a similar conduit to the oligarchy that JD Vance is for the GOP.
You mean outside of his whole neoliberal political career?! I mean he’s done some good stuff but it’s mostly been handouts for the wealthy with little more than a handshake for working Americans by comparison.
She wasn’t who they wanted in 2024 either. If there was a real primary she would have been demolished.
The Democrstic party was stuck between opposing Trump and opposing leftism and categorically chose to oppose leftism. That’s been the conundrum they can’t figure out.
That’s been the conundrum they can’t figure out.
I dunno. They seem to have figured it out.
I had meant doing both, but yeah, you’re absolutely right: they figured out their preference real quick.
I dislike Kamala, but because of bidens hubris, she was the best choice for 2024.
She immediately got access to bidens war chest and was immediately able to start campaigning with infrastructure and money…
Biden dropping out so late made Kamala the only real choice…
She was a terrible candidate who always chose the wrong way to campaign, but unfortunately she was the best candidate.
I really don’t get this. The convention was still 2 weeks in the future. Why even have a convention if 2 weeks before it is too late to pick a candidate? Or do we just admit everything is fixed before the convention anyway and stop bothering?
Biden had $1billion dollars in his war chest.
The democrats needed that money to start campaigning, no matter the candidate.
Until they had an official candidate, the money couldn’t be transferred, potentially taking multiple weeks.
Kamala, since she was part of Biden-Harris, could use his funds day 1.
I agree that they could’ve had an open convention, but the $$$ was too attractive
That worked out great.
I’m pretty sure that Kamala was the establishment’s first choice in 2020 then, after voters rejected her, they switched to Biden and stuck her in the VP slot.
And how is Buttigieg qualified to lead the country? He did fuck all as the Secretary of Transportation. He’s a pro-corporate hack.
I’m gay and he has never given me a reason to like him. Him acting like Medicare for All would be a bad thing was what initially turned me off from him.
He’s mouthy and good with the bully pulpit, which is engaging television and probably wins over hearts and minds WAY better than progressive policy (sadly).
The right person has to have the charisma AND the progressive underpinning. Style and substance.
But I would take enough charisma to shut down MAGA at this point, even if it was a bit establishment. Piecemeal it. IDK if we’ll get the style and substance candidate, or how much that will matter.
Unfortunately, we can’t afford to mess around. The fresh water crisis is something America has to deal with - sooner, rather than later. There are many other crises than water and health care, and they are all very urgent.
If being a progressive has been reduced to: “I’m slightly to the left of Republicans, but just as pro-capitalist as them”, then the term has been co-opted or watered-down to meaninglessness.
It’s like the term “Libertarian” being co-opted by capitalists. The original meaning of libertarianism had nothing to do with capitalism, free markets, deregulation, and privatization.
So who is the candidate to watch?
The fresh water crisis is dire. Is any candidate or political figure, past or present, addressing the issue or suggesting solutions?
If not, they are all insufficient and unqualified to lead.
We can’t wait until 2028 and there may no election to vote in. We need this administration to go ASAP.
He’s man. Also he’s not woman. Ez
Hillary won the popular vote in 2016 by 2.9 million votes against Trump and she was insanely unpopular for reasons most people can agree on (that don’t relate to gender).
I don’t think misogyny played a major factor in Kamala’s loss.

54 here and very tuned in. I think the disconnect is more a matter of wealth and socioeconomic status than age.

As a millennial I get your anger, but the guy you’re responding to is right. An average working boomer had no more say in the policies enacted than you or I and the majority will be flat broke by the time they die, outlook isn’t much better for Gen X either. The establishment has done a wonderful job running us around and keeping us focused on the wrong fights. They’ve done it so well that even saying it sounds like a conspiracy theory to me when I know it to be true.
The tax rates for the ultra wealthy need to be increased to post WW2 levels, we need to get corporate money out of politics and the news. The people in power hold nearly all the cards and have convinced everyone the cards we hold are useless or immoral. The truth is we need better ways to organize and connect with local like-minded people to pool resources, hinder competition and bring the oligarchs down.
“Buttigieg, Ocasio-Cortez and Harris are the top three picks for Democrats” - just through polling. No announcements on running from either
No-one endorsed by DNC, those f tards!
They’ve been grooming Buttigieg for a run since the start of the Biden admin. They paraded him out at every televised crisis and he was going on every swing voter talk show. He’s kicked into high gear going on podcasts and putting out YT and tik too content. If they don’t run him in 2028 I would be so surprised. Imo he should announce his intent now and start a years long tour of podcasts, rallies and TV appearances.
Like Harris, I don’t think Biden cared to build up Buttigieg. Remember those train disasters? Or the rail strike? Biden faded into the background and tasked Buttigieg with handling then, which at first blush just looks like the Transportation Secretary getting stuck with handling messaging for transportation problems, except trains aren’t actually under Transportation and he was just getting tasked with shit issues because Biden’s team wanted to hold onto power for as long as possible.
He’s obviously going to run, but instead of a conspiracy by elite masterminds working for a common purpose, the establishment seems more like a bunch of selfish assholes who are constantly trying to maximize their personal wealth and power.
Remember those train disasters? Or the rail strike?
Or the interminable shipping logjam in which the price of everything went through the roof and therefore the economy was great and shut up?
Seems bizarre that Newsom is not on the list when he’s the most likely to win.
This is ridiculous. None of these 3 will ultimately get the nod. It’s been pretty obvious for a while now that the “safe” candidate for 2028 will be Liz Cheney. Pete of course will be the VP pick.
I dunno, seems like Pete’s just playing to the base, and they have no choice but to vote Democratic. Maybe Mitt Romney instead. Now that’s a ticket that can net us a few hundred Never Trump Republicans.
It’ll work this time!
