“The haves and the have-nots in the school lunchroom is not a necessary thing,” said Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.

the last woman i dated was 100% against this type of thing, because she was 100% against taxes on the wealthy.

She was 100% for taxes on poor people though.

She was 34, and her father was still paying her rent, while she ranted against poor people and children who ‘were getting hand outs’.

We broke up over it, and she pulled the ‘you are too ugly for me anyways’.

The selfishness, cruelty, and immaturity of conservative types of people is beyond the pale. And they feel like they are the victims, that school children being fed is them being abused and stolen from.

Yeah, it’s strangely always those hypocritical types with zero self-awareness that are like this too. I.E. see all the actual sexual predators going around calling Democrats “pedos” while being arrested for exposing themselves to a minor (like Lauren Boebert’s husband for instance) or something similar.

Every accusation is a confession and all that.

I’m surprised more politicians don’t go in for stuff like this. Even cynically, you’re forcing your opponents into a tough spot. “We should make sure that children don’t starve” is a brutal thing to have to argue against.

As soon as anyone who can do math points out we’re spending $27,000 a year per student, and then denying perfectly acceptable graduates their diplomas because of less than $500 in cumulative debt for food the school will throw away more than $1,000 of which per semester.

That logic goes out the window.

But, that does require math literacy and an attention span in the double digit seconds, so probably completely unattainable.

Not only that but kids that are fed perform better in schools. Kids that perform better in schools have a chance at a better future.

that’s because you assume republican voters have any empathy at all for anyone that isn’t themselves.

they do not. they do not care if children starve, as long as their tax bills are lower and they can buy a shiny new toy with it.

amen. school lunch would also be cheaper and healthier if we had actaul cooks in the schools. but you know… we can’t pay people that’s bad! only corporations. that’s good!

If 99 out of 100 students had parents who could afford school meals, I would still be in favor of free meals for all because that 1 kid shouldn’t have to be hungry all day and their parents shouldn’t have to jump through hoops to prove it.

Tim Walz was right. Isn’t this the real pro-life and pro-child position to have? Some Republicans used to think like this. Waay back in the day when I was a naive young moderate Republican, even I thought that this stuff should be common sense.

Bible said that rich people who ignore the poor might go to hell, so I even thought it was the Christian thing to do and what Jesus would want. You know, the Jesus that the GOP’s always going on about? Hell, when a bunch of people followed him and got tired and hungry, he fed them all for free. He wasn’t all like “Hey guys, you should have planned better than this, use your own wallets and have some personal responsibility.”

I also believed in taxing the rich to house the homeless, even if the housing was just barely acceptable. I also thought that all poor children should be taken care of with government money because if you force babies to be born (I was pro-life) it’s YOUR responsibility and you have to take care of them now.

Needless to say, I didn’t stay a Republican very long. I realized really quick what they were really all about. Cognitive dissonance, bait and switch, and total hypocrisy.

We need to get the best out of our population, China has more honor students than we have students. Feed the damn kids, every study has shown that it improves performance.
