…has everyone just forgotten Haunted Chocolatier exists and he’s working on it? Sure looks like a very Stardew Valley-esque experience.

A while back he said he would stop developing Stardew Valley 1.

Either way, if he releases a sequal, instant buy from myself and my partner. He’s learnt our trust, and definitely deserves the money.

if creator Eric Barone cared more about money, I can only imagine that a sequel would be all but guaranteed.

I don’t get this. A sequel means more money, as the current owners can now buy a second game

Yea I understand from context but the wording seems bad

The current one is similar to “if he cared about money, a sequel would not be guaranteed”

No, it’s saying if he cared about money he would be more likely to make a sequel. Him caring about money would all but guarantee a sequel.

I don’t get why “all but guaranteed” means guaranteed

English isn’t my first language and the phrasing is so weird. Translating word by word seems to indicate something else

You’re technically right: it means ‘everything up to’, so not a full guarantee but the next best thing. In usage it means ‘a guarantee in all but name’.

                Alright! Thanks for the explanation

Literally translating it would mean the complete opposite in my main language so that’s why I was confused

That’s what they’re saying. The implication is that Barone doesn’t care about money and therefore may not make a sequel.

“All but guaranteed” doesn’t mean “not guaranteed”. It means it’s so close to being guaranteed that it may as well be guaranteed – it has everything but the formal guarantee.

Sequal idea: Same map. Same characters. New added characters. Expanded map area.

But here’s the catch. If you want to know where any given character is on a non-event day, just stalk them on that day. If you see a person is at the beach on a Tuesday at 8pm, they will ALWAYS be on the beach at 8pm on non-event Tuesdays.

What if we introduced a needs system? Lets say Marnie needs love. Well she’ll go find the mayor. But maybe she needs to shower more than she needs love. Well, now she’s going home, showering, THEN she’ll go find Lewis.

And each characters needs meters are unique. For example, Pam and Shane could have alcohol needs. But Jazmine might be aged up from age 5 to age 13. She wouldn’t have an alcohol need. But she might have a need to be hugged. In which case, she’d go find Penny.

And maybe we introduce visitors. Create like 4,000 sprite models, and have 20 visitors each day visit the town. That way, it’s not the same people visiting everyday, but there’s always some people visiting.

Maybe make more visitors on Fridays/Saturdays/Sundays, and less visitors Monday and Tuesdays.

And you could tie the games economy to the visitors. The more they spend, the more the local shops can upgrade their shop. But they get incentivized to come spend money based on what quality those shops carry. Which in turn is based on what you sell (or don’t sell) them.
