I thought they found some people who had been living behind the mountain for 6,000 years and nobody spotted them before.

I bet they’d be rather surprised at what humanity has become in the intervening years; I wonder how humans would adapt to an underground lifestyle in 6,000 years.

Under a mountain? No, clearly their entire society revolves around digging for gold while dodging dragons and balrogs

It only re-appears into the real world every 100 years.
