Hello everyone!

I’m excited to bring some news to our wonderful community today. After an engaging voting process on the voting thread, we as a community have decided to change the name from Infinity for Lemmy to Eternity. 🎉 I am grateful to everyone who participated and voiced their opinions. It was great to see so much involvement!

While [email protected] will be our new gathering space, I’d like to let you know that the original [email protected] won’t be closing its doors immediately. This way, everyone has enough time to transition comfortably and get accustomed to our new home.

Lastly, remember, while names may change, our spirit and camaraderie remain eternal. I cherish our roots with “Infinity for Reddit” and am excited about the journey ahead in “Eternity”. Let’s collaborate, share, and continue building on this vibrant community.

Have fun and see you all in Eternity! 🚀🌌

I’m confused a bit. Is Infinity for Lemmy (now Eternity) developed by the reddit developer u/HostileEnemy, or a fork?

If it’s a fork, will future development follow upstream closely or are there plans to diverge (adding features not found on InfinityForReddit for example)?

It’s a fork. I’ve implemented a few new features for Eternity that aren’t present in Infinity (e.g. images in comments). I don’t want to make it too different from the original app and I think it would be great to port back features and bug fixes upstream. However, afaik right now the original dev won’t be merging new pull requests until they’ve implemented the subscription model.

Infinity for Lemmy/Eternity is a fork of the Reddit client and must divert from the original since both apps support different platforms.

The only thing that changed is the app name and consequentially the community name, that’s it.
