Yup. The Republican plan in the US, just about ten years late.

It works, except that the ideological inbreeding results in candidates that are completely batshit, having had no exposure to anyone outside their social bubble. They think they’re reasonable, until they’re babbling online about Jewish space lasers starting wildfires.

They hadn’t already done this? When I was living there a decade ago, it sure seemed like they were in control of everything.

    What would you prefer?

A government that enforces secularism to a point that no teacher can wear any kind of religious symbol in school, leading to Muslim or Sikh people having to quit their job?

Or extreme social conservative groups taking over your school boards leading to the religious indoctrination of your children according to their extreme conservative Christian view?

      The first one.

But why are you setting up this absolutely false dilemma ?

In both cases non-christian groups are disadvantaged, and we try not to do that in our country even when it’s non-christian religions in the cross-hairs.

Mainly because the whole of Canada is calling Quebec society “racist” for getting any religious influence out of school. Which isn’t racism because it has nothing to do with race.

Quebec has been bombarded with hateful comments and opinions from the rest of Canada on this topic to no end. (While being praised by the rest of the world for taking these initiatives.)

Meanwhile, your have Christian far right conservative ideology being brought to children in Alberta, which is FAR more damaging to a society.

Let’s see how much Canada reacts to this. But I’m willing to bet that they’re not going to get as much attention as Quebec did.

100% the first one. How is that even a question? Nobody is getting murdered or abused in the first one. Some feelings are hurt, but nobody is getting discriminated against. A teacher not being allowed to display a cross or wear a hijab is not even slightly comparable to, eg, forcing children to pray or beating them with a stick because they wore a skirt. If they want to wear their religious symbols, they can do that in whatever religious contexts they have available to them, and school is not a religious context.

      “radical secularism” my ass.
