Here you can still find paper bags (and even plastic bags if you ask). I guess the other commenter lives somewhere similar
I can hear CRT screens. They emit a high pitch noise that nobody else in my family can hear, I assume most people actually can hear it but never noticed it. My family used to think I was crazy or had tinnitus (jury’s still out on both) until they tested me by making me close my eyes and tell them if the TV was on while turning it off and on at random, with sound off. It was a weird test from my perspective, since I could hear it fine anyway. So far I haven’t noticed a decay due to age, but if it had little use when CRTs were widespread, it’s now completely useless.
Poop gang unite!
Or you could be so amazing that you’re the reason why someone loves your entire race/gender/creed/country!
… And that in turn makes that person hate all other races/genders/creeds/countries and spend their whole lives committing atrocities to eradicate them, so that everyone in the world looks a bit more like you.
The Greek gods are canonical aliens in Star Trek. I’m sure it could be arranged
This website is wack:

I wasn’t expecting the website to outright refuse me from accessing it after refusing to be tracked, and with such bullshit lingo too
Roundcat… Alolan Persian!
You expressed my own thoughts in a better way than I ever could. I agree completely.
When Place first happened it was such a phenomenon, I think nothing that tries to copy it will ever come close.
Even Reddit’s follow-ups have been much less fun than the first one.
You’re lucky if you get a full word. The worst were the one letter chains that culminated in F U C K M E or something.
I like alexandrite.app a lot!
Clearly nobody related to this article has ever tried exploring stable diffusion models, all the most popular ones have an extreme bias towards young Asian women!
I’m sorry, I am fully male-presenting (and was assigned male at birth - which is relevant as my boss is super conservative and would not tolerate a trans person in her office. The LGBTQ lay low here).
My supervisor, however, IS read as female, and I fully suspect that she is who my boss has a problem with. Especially after she left, as my boss saw this as a personal betrayal of sorts. And since my own project is inexorably linked to my supervisor, I get these reactions by association.
Not the answer I was expecting, but I did come out of a break up recently so whatever life has in store for me I guess
Moving on with my life.
I’m near the end of my PhD. I’ve been at this lab for 5 years, as I joined before beginning my PhD, and I’ve been at the same university for 11ish years since I started my bachelor’s. I deliver my thesis in April if all goes well, and can’t wait to see what life has in store for me elsewhere.
I love most of my coworkers, but a few drive me nuts (and everyone else, too, and I tend to be a good mediator so I always end up in a position where I’m the only one who tries to help the troublesome guys). My main supervisor moved to another country a few years ago, and the one that took me in (the only other person with PhD students in the whole lab) hates my project (she has explicitly said so) and can’t wait to get me to work on what everyone else is working on. Meanwhile my other supervisor (the one that moved) has recommended that I let go of the few responsibilities I had in this lab (apart from my project), which is a good decision, but has made me feel like I no longer belong here. Since I’m also retracting a bit to work on some papers, I feel increasingly isolated even though I love my coworkers.
Can’t wait to finally get this over with and have an actual career in a lab where people don’t hate my project, or even an industry job where I can feel like I actually make a difference. I’m also a bit fed up with the conditions in my country and would like to try moving somewhere where nanotech is actually in demand, like the Netherlands or something. Maybe I’ll even risk a dramatic move to Asia!
I work in a related field and while I don’t know anything about supercomputers being more realistic, there is a movement to eliminate animal testing and instead use organ-on-chip models - still using cells, but in vitro. The advantage is not only that you eliminate animal suffering, but also that you can use human cells, so your tests are much more quickly applicable to humans. In fact, in a far away future, you could even test with your cells and see how a specific treatment affects you. Super interesting stuff!
Try doing something else for a while, go see other planets, other leads you’ve been following. A lot of places I thought I was stuck in I later realized it was a part of a different puzzle elsewhere in the game.
Where are you stuck?
Last piece of advice, don’t give up on the game. It’s one of those games where you’ll be glad you finished it.
There are a lot of games tied to popular IPs stuck on J2ME! Usually of questionable quality, though. There are half a million Sonic games, including a version of Sonic Unleashed that if I recall correctly played something like Sonic Rush, a Ratchet and Clank sidescroller (is it called Going Mobile maybe?), I also remember Tomb Raider games there. I would love to look at an overview of the most interesting games in this platform. It is extremely nostalgic to me.
I also have no clue how they were distributed? I remember putting them on my phone using less than legal means, but have no idea how you’d get them officially. Was it through one of those sketchy services where you could also get wallpapers and ringtones by texting a specific number?
