The title of this article is disingenuous, and the article itself fails to note that K-8 have already been using the proficiency scale report cards for years. Grades 10-12 continue to have letter grades, and that will likely continue for a while longer. That being said, the numeracy and literacy exams grade on the same proficiency scale, it just converts it to a number (1-4 scale). It’s not impossible to apply this system to high school grades, but it will take some getting used to by teachers, students and parents.

Most middle school kids don’t really care about report cards or grades as they know to that they will just be pushed along with everyone else (this is a separate issue from report card formats). The proficiency based report cards will not change this practice. Another note of importance is that official academic transcripts start in grade 10, so everything before it doesn’t really matter, from an academic record point of view.

Considering the anti-LGBTQ+ and pro-conversion ‘therapy’ stance this organization has, they will not be missed if they disappear. There are less discriminatory organizations that people can support.

You might not be able to save the badly burned sections. If they are getting worse, just cut them off and save your plants energy for recovery.

In a cruel twist of irony, it marks the 20 year anniversary of the 2003 Okanagan Park fire. Most Kelowna residents would have experienced that and are probably retraumatized.

You can grow microgreens, and other green, leafy vegetables with the right conditions: full-spectrum light, deep enough soil, and keeping the soil moist. Lettuce and cabbage are very easy to grow.

In the spring after last frost, just sprinkle some of the fertalized pellets at the base of the plant and gently press them into the dirt. Follow the dosage instructions on the container.

Same goes for bonemeal - just gently press it on top of the soil. You could even cover it with a nutrient rich compost.

When was the last time you fertalized? Roses need to be fertalized 2-3 times a year (get a slow release formula specifically for roses). Your roses might also benefit from bonemeal to restore potassium to the soil. Lastly, is the yellowing because of rot/fungus? Cooler, humid climates cause numerous infections on roses, but are easily managed with garden sulphur.

Not sure if this will save this year’s rose hip harvest, but it will help for next years.
