Thanks for also being the first other person I’ve seen refer to the commonly-accepted-but-fucked-up-practice of Ukrainians being forced to join the army against their will. Any male over 18 gets stripped from their families at the border when trying to flee the country, then forced to help kill Russians (and other Ukrainians) or face death - which is seriously awful.
The willingness not only to dehumanise all Russians at the drop of a hat is astounding in itself, but to then go on and assert just how many Ukrainian lives we’re willing to drop in a blender to STICK IT TO PUTLER is next level. The complete willingness for bloodshed on both sides is strange. The contest seems to be just how many countries of people can they support the genocide of simultaneously.
I still don’t see how it’s any more confusing than Windows. Cinnamon does it almost exactly the same way as windows, and typically detects network sign-in requirements better. Auto-updates work absolutely fine, and again I’ve not seen them need manual intervention with any more frequency than Windows.
Couldn’t disagree more. Do non-techies need anything more than a browser nowadays? Maybe a word processor? The process of turning on and opening a web browser on Mint are practically no different from Windows. Hardware will plug and play just the same. Using printers is equally intuitive (ie, not very). In fact, I can find firefox on GNOME by just pressing the Win key and typing “internet” or “browser”.
Both are probably equally likely to run into incomprehensible tech problems that require techie intervention.

As a European, we’re definitely leagues ahead of the US, but we also have giant face tracking infrastructure, anti privacy devices and apps, and we just recently did massive invasions resulting in the deaths of millions of innocent civilians in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. And at least hundreds of thousands of those deaths are actually provable and well-documented.
OP, politics aside, it seems like you have a genuinely unhealthy obsession with having these arguments. If you don’t feel you’re getting any meaningful discussion or engagement out of those conversations, then stop.
To be honest, I’m fine with people having instance blocking, but how does widespread instance blocking not equally lead to the ‘echo chamber’ problem that people also dislike?
A good starting point to learning as any; Like most Western news stories about China - The Winnie the Pooh thing (while also having ominous racist tones) is also just an entirely made up story with no basis in reality. The Pooh brand is alive, unsuppressed, and found throughout China.
