  • Federation basically just means your instance will scrape Meta in turn and serve their content to you, whereas being defederated it will not. That means federated or no, without additional precautions by admins of particular instances, Meta will be getting the same info federated or no. Being defederated makes interacting with Meta’s service much less likely though, which makes them scraping your data less likely. This update to the ToS honestly just sort of describes how the fediverse works anyway this isn’t some special feature of Threads, all instances behave this way.

  • Nintendo ‘deconfirmed’ it because that would be sad and they don’t want to publically say “yes Majoras Mask is a sad.” Doesn’t fit the brand. That being said, Majoras Mask is about grief. The lead Dev lost his daughter right before production, whether it was intended or not the game is absolutely chock a block with this constant repeating theme and it’s why the game is special.

  • I agree with pretty much your entire shpiel except that all this HD video streaming is the direct cause of the ad supported internet. You think if YouTube had never done it’s business all over the internet we’d just have unobtrusive banner ads advertising porn or other web services still??? The internet could still be bulletin boards and geocities fansites in 2023 but the ads would look exactly the same.

  • “intuitiveness is objective and measurable” is such a hilarious thing to say. Like yes it’s possible to measure how quickly people can come to understand an app but to say that, therefore, we have an objective understanding of ‘intuitiveness’ and can say “Hamburger menu instead of kebab menu here??? That is O B J E C T I V E L Y unintuitive” is sooo fucking silly.

  • Well not really, but the courts put the burden of evidence on the worker usually so corps often get away with it. In this case they at least had to pay damages I guess. This issue with reluctance to close lines and address safety concerns because it hurts the bottom line for investors and management is really atrocious though and has been going on for nearly 15 years now. Last summer a BNSF railroad bridge was knocked down by the river and then that same bridge traveled downstream and knocked out a second bridge. They assured us that all bridges would be inspected so that even in high flow situations they won’t fall down. This year another one went in and the river didn’t even get close to pushing the kind of water it pushed last year. I can only assume they didn’t do a fucking thing, or their inspection criteria is woefully inadequate.
