What makes you say that? robot.txt just disallows things like /create_community and there’s no robots, googlebot, etc meta tags in the source that I can see, and no nofollow apart from on a few things like feeds.

No, I was referring to the bit about having lots of copies of the same content on each different instance. If example.com/c/comm@* had a meta tag giving the origin community as the rel=canonical link target then only the origin would be in a search engine as the only linker.

rel=nofollow is a good idea too, but less interesting to this semantic html nerd.

Seems like Lemmy should add a rel=canonical link when browsing federated communities - this would “solve“ this issue (and would be the correct thing to do anyway).

I was already getting free egress by going via Cloudflare (plus a small amount outside that that stayed within the free tier), so for me this is just a 20% price increase.

I have it set as my default shell on my main machine, but it’s not going anywhere near my servers! It’s definitely the most fun shell I’ve used, and hopefully some more of the warts can be shaved off as it matures.

When I last used Debian, I found myself very annoyed with the lag in the package manager. This is a very long time ago (15 years?), so probably isn’t the case any longer. You may be right; it was about 20 years ago I watched it. Perhaps their conclusion was it happens just as much when the lid is down.

Yeah, the original thin clients were basically useless without the server they connected to, but nowadays even computers the size of a stick of gum are plenty powerful enough for consuming webpages and videos.

You still need peripherals like mouse, keyboard and screen but you might get them as part of the package (sounds like you already have them though).
