The EU was formed explicitly to prevent new wars from happening in the continent. At this point we should reconsider this and admit something has gone terribly wrong. We just elected a whole new set of greedy beurocrats and politicians…
Be more specific, not a western guy, it was an Italian guy, Roberto Mancini. Religious fascists at the end agree with each other, he will feel immediately at home there.
I am at risk of losing my own job since it can be quite easily replaced by AI. The original post was about people having to die, so I hope to be counted in that number.
Automation replaces manual works, AI replaces intellectual ones. No need for cheap labor in the short term.
From a western ex-colonialist country, I think we deserve not only to be treated as we did to others but also to repay all the wealth we subtracted. Proportionally according to what each one did. Guess we’re starting on Italy for the Roman Empire and Macedonia for the Hellenistic ones.
The artist’s name (I think) is “Jean-François Millet”.
Will at least all our problems of overweight, diabetes and clogged arteries be solved in a few years? Or will most of us be dead by that time? I fear the latter…
Tell me you are employed by an Italian IT company without telling me you are employed by an Italian IT company. While reading “I will learn on the field” it reminded me of my previous employer who was very fond of this “learning on the job” approach. To the clients’ detriment who had their expensive software developed by inexperienced programmers.
If those languages allow for zero subject pronouns (like Spanish or Italian) and the omitted noun is actually the subject this may be the case, but I speak Italian and can not think of a real world sentence where this happens because when we put emphasis on an element we tend to use a (gendered) pronoun or a noun to disambiguate anyway.
While distinguishing gender may be sensitive for animate (although with big problems for being inclusive anyway) it makes really no sense for inanimate entities. In Italian they are assigned randomly to either gender, even loanwords can get either (usually masculine but not always). It’s a matter of style, a legacy of the past, but natural languages tend to have these “artistic” features that only embellish them without any real world advantage, violating the principle of linguistic economy.
Not in my language but it my local dialect “va’ in mona” or “va’ in figa” both translate to “go to (fuck a) p***y” and are short forms of
Va’ in figa to’ mare
which suggests the listener should go fuck his own mother’s p***y. Very common insult in north-eastern Italy with no equivalent even in standard Italian.
Who are the authoritarian ones now? As a European, I start seeing differences between our western and eastern neighbours grow thinner and thinner…
That applies also to some “european” countries, like Italy. Which is in Europe merely for its geographic position (and not even entirely).
Why do I have a feeling we’re heading to the same here in western Europe too?
Here in Italy the situation is the same. They are issuing more and more working visas for immigrants and refugees in order to exploit their skills underpaid and without minimum labor rights. The propaganda, after demonizing immigrants for every possible crime before the elections, has now changed tones saying foreigners need to be employed in order to “pay retirement pensions” for the elderly and sustain the healthcare system with the taxes.
Energetic sustainability hits again…
Totally agree. Demonizing one single person is failing to analyze the issue and spot the real problem. Citizens are overwhelmed and unsatisfied, they look for alternatives and do not believe they have the power to change anything through rebellion. Some politicians are just unscrupulous enough to leverage this to their profit.
I really like this project, so kudos! Both as PWA on the browser and in the wrapped WebView version it is GREAT! I have a feature request if it’s not too complicated: would it be possible to disable the long tap gesture on images which I sometimes accidentally trigger while scrolling? In the browser it opened the share modal, here it does nothing except giving haptic feedback.
Nonetheless we are directly experiencing an economy of war and “military law”-like measures like reintroduction of conscription, extremely patriotistic news, war industry on the surge. Plus a rising of neonazi and neofascist movements. Seems to me that all these “let’s collaborate and respect each other” went completely neglected.
