  • it’s funny because as much as I hate gnome desktop, I feel like gnu really does makes the best Linux software. disks utility, nano editor, I’d even argue gnu paint without the ability to undo is more intuitive and superior to most of the closed source commercial stuff of similar purpose you can find out there.

actually, some of the best looking desktops I’ve seen are heavily customized versions of gnome (pop os, nobara official) so maybe I’m wrong on that too.

  • Let’s not make up for the deficit by casually dismissing ruining innocent people’s lives or saying that doing so is not a big deal. What if I tried to justify saying rape is only a tiny percentage of all consensual sexual encounters? If only one is reported and it’s your innocent life that ends up being entirely smeared and ruined, how bitter do you feel about it? How empathetic are you to someone that comes forward with allegations in the future?

In support of real victims, I strongly believe that charging the accuser of allegations that end up being without a doubt (only as clear as in this case) proven false, only strongly increases the credibility of real victims who come forward with true accusations. Because it has the power to shut down the evil and toxic attack on the motivations of the people who do come forward. Nobody would speculate someone ever risking prison for “fame and attention” or “revenge on an ex” unless they knew what happened was real and an investigation would not immediately turn up a huge pile of bullshit like it did here. They would be always seen as only just seeking help and support and justice.

If we want to increase the reports of actual assault, we have better ways of empowering victims. We need more robust ways of documenting and investigating true consent. We need law enforcement to protect and stop stigmatizing free, independent sex workers who are the most vulnerable of the whole population to assault than anyone else. We need to encourage people to speak up when it’s true and an investigation would very much support that. But you are evil if you think this psychopathic liar of a woman doesn’t deserve a long stay in a prison cell.

  • true, but perhaps if we are created beings, could it be considered just a complication of the model? for example, consider a simulated universe like our own, where a being might get hit by a car. with AI evolved suffient enough, that AI would feel pain and perhaps suffer horrible injuries, even if the intention of creating the independent systems of automobile mechanics, and the laws of physics, and the evolution of the human nervous system wasn’t to induce a state of suffering.

more specifically, on the biology of the nervous system, it’s interesting how fear/pain/suffering itself was just a byproduct of natural selection meant to help us by telling our dumb humanoid ancestors the things we should avoid - things that cause physical damage to our flesh or our mental state, or make it harder to survive. so these things are meant to help us, or we wouldn’t have evolved it at all.

doesn’t really have to be a sadist. consider the theory were all just temporary beings in a experimental universe, observed by the supreme scientists that created us, almost like a child playing the sims. an ecological researcher observing a lion eating a deer isn’t supposed to interfere in natural selection for the deer’s sake if they want their study to have any merit.
