  • That was my initial reaction, thinking China MUST hold more treasury bonds than anyone else, right? Turns out that’s typically Japan ($1 trillion), and the UK has generally held roughly the same number as China (both in the $700B range). Maybe the US anticipated and had contingencies ready if it was just China doing the selling, but when the other big holders started a slow bleed, it might’ve given them pause? Dunno.

We also don’t know who held what more recently than January and I don’t know if the data gap is the usual lag or if the the people who do this work at the Treasury department got “DOGE’d”.

Bottom line, it’s been fun to think about but I don’t think we should put too much stock in conspiracy theories originating on Substack.

  • There’s a theory being batted around without too much evidence (hold tight, Snopes is on it) that Mark Carney talked European and Japanese leaders into accumulating US Treasury bonds, and then slow-selling them to make Trump squirm once he imposed the broad-brush tariffs to spook the T-bill market.

The theory sounds mostly plausible in that Carney was in Europe for closed door meetings with European leaders shortly after being designated PM, and that Trump backed off so quickly and used the language of “the bond market is tricky” to justify the change in direction. Dropping demand for T-bills leads the Fed to increase yields to keep the borrowing taps on, means expensive borrowing for them, means no money for tax cuts for billionaires.

On the other hand, the story originates from a twice-fired shock-jock’s Substack.

But it sounds like something a wicked smart Harvard/Oxford educated economist would dream up and pull off…

  • Long COVID includes mitochondrial and endothelial dysfunction, postural tachycardia (can’t stand up in the shower), and many other features which are not typically part of depression. Long COVID (may be better to use the term myalgic myeloencephaletis) can certainly precipitate mood disorders, but they are typically reactive, or adjustment related.

  • Their enterprise line has switches with 2.5Gb ports. They’re particularly popular among the rack-porn crowd as they have all their ports in a single line instead so they can have just one patch panel and all the ports line up nicely. It only does POE+, not ++, which would be nice for running a POE switch in the garage that could drive both an access point and some cameras.

They also sell SFP+ modules that do 10/5/2.5 Gb

  • Lots of great suggestions but none really focussed on your concern about keeping track of magic in combat. If this is a question of keeping track of buffs, concentration, magical effects, or conditions, I found using “condition rings” on the players’, creatures’, and NPCs’ minis made this much easier. I started off with just the plastic rings off milk jugs or pop bottles, but fancy ones with the words written right on them make a nice gift request for a birthday etc.

You create inter vlan rules that allow connections from your main vlan to the other vlans, but only allow established and related traffic from the secondary vlans back to the main vlan.

I have a separate vlan for IoT and guests but punch holes for contact back to my HomePods(main vlan) for my Ecobee thermostat (IoT vlan) to contact so my kids can use Siri to get the weather in the mornings, and for guests to use the printer, that sort of thing.
