russia (and israel) is the only major country in modern time that is still invading/colonizing to expand its territories. Expanding its empire, russia is adding those new lands it conquered into its constitution.

FSB has been planning the conflict in Ukriane for a very very long time, notice all the failed russia coup attempts inside Ukraine. Sending terrorist, agent and operative into the Donbass region to destabilize the region.

That is also probably why they refuse to let Ukraine join NATO, If Ukraine was in NATO there would be peace in this region like the other NATO countries bordering russia. NATO does not expand (invade to grab land), it is based on voluntary membership application (although it is not truly volunteer since they are being forced, antagonized to join due to russia expansionism). New members are only accepted through vote. “NATO expansion” is well known as putin/FSB propaganda meant for a certain naive audience.

NATO borders with russia are the most peaceful with the low number of russian troops. Internally, Russia is not concerned about NATO, a defense alliance since Russia has the highest number of nukes.

Ukraine public support for joining NATO was in the minority before the war, and only after invasion it became majority. Even after Ukraine said they won’t apply to NATO, russia didn’t not stop its expansion because russia expansion has nothing to do with NATO.

In fact due to russia aggressive expansion even more countries applied to join NATO. Putin knew that russia expansion will encourage more to submit application to join NATO. Putin was warned to stop russia expansion as that just cause more to apply for NATO membership, it is open to anyone. NATO was created to protect small countries from russia expansionism and stop russia from antagonizing its neighbours.

Russia was even member of G8 until russia antagonized G8 members by invasion of Crimea. The only way a massive nuclear powered russia sees NATO as a “threat” is that NATO prevents russia from expansionism… from expanding russia territories.

Without security gurantee, it is guaranteed that russia will grab more lands after 1 month+ rest. This peace deal is useless, it is not stopping any killing nor stopping the war. It is just to make Trump look good that he achieved a peace deal. If russia invades again after 1 month-4 years, Trump will just blame Obama or Biden again, or he will just say Ukraine is no longer his concern, and it is a new conflict unrelated to his peace deal. There will be no difference with this “peace” deal or without it. It is a useless piece of paper.

But you are right in that anything can happen, even butter fingers during peace time. The risk probably becomes more when there is tension, so keeping communication open between each other is important. The good thing is that unlike evil russia, India has a no-first-use (NFU) policy so no nukes will be used. They have both been in conflict for ages, no nukes were used because there is no need to use them.

M.A.D, Mutually Assured Destruction, It would have to a very extreme situation for a country to go nuclear against another nuclear power. A situation where suicide is the better option.

Also have to remember that the madman is not the one actually launching nukes. He is giving orders, hopefully the people actually launching nuke or carrying out orders have families (and prioritize their families over country) and are not mad too. There needs to be madmen all along the chain of command to want Mutual Assured Destruction.

It is good they both have nukes, as that would mean it is suicide(MAD-Mutually Assured Destruction) to use nukes. So it won’t be used, only in very extreme cases nukes would be used, extreme in the sense that suicide is the better option. Only if mutually assured destruction is the better option.

If one didn’t have nukes then it’s a problem as the one without nukes will get nuked, especially if they are not a neighboring country. Just like how japan was nuked by US (Japan is not a neighbour, far away and doesn’t have nuke.).
