I don’t agree. The publisher of the material does not get to dictate what it is used for. What are we protecting at the end of the day and why?

In the case of a textbook, someone worked hard to explain certain materials in a certain way to make the material easily digestible. They produced examples to explain concepts. Reproducing and disseminating that material would be unfair to the author who worked hard to produce it.

But the author does not have jurisdiction over the knowledge gained. They cannot tell the reader that they are forbidden from using the knowledge gained to tutor another person in calculus. That would be absurd.

IP law protects the works of the creator. The author of a calculus textbook did not invent calculus. As such, copyright law does not apply.

Reproduction of copyrighted material would be breaking the law. Studying it and using it as reference when creating original content is not.

Nah. I’m sorry, but fuck apartments. I was spending $22k a year. Apartment complex did a crap job clearing snow in the winter. My neighbors were disgusting. I had to walk across the complex to get to my laundry room, where the machines rarely worked. The AC wall units were expensive to run, and did little to cool the apartment. The downstairs neighbor’s front door slammed every time they closed it. The people next door would vacuum for an hour every night starting at 10pm. I got a $45 fine for hanging a beach towel over a chair on my balcony.

I mean shit, they decided to renovate the apartment beneath me, and turned off my heat and left for the weekend in the middle of winter. They turned off my water multiple times with no notice making me late for work. And then the construction workers stole my package before heading home.

I bought a house. Every time I pay my mortgage I build equity in my home. I have my own laundry room. I may have to clear the snow myself, but I have plenty of space to store a snow blower and shovels - something I could never do before. I can buy bulk sized non perishables too and save money, because I have plenty of space to store it. I can sleep at night without being awoken by my neighbors fucking to the sounds of Bob Marley. I can hang up a towel to dry without being fined for it. And if I need to do work, I can determine when or if the water is being turned off.

Oh, and renewing my lease would have seen me paying almost as much in rent as my mortgage payment. For what?

Really hard coming from a family with only automatic cars. Very few people have stick cars, and even fewer are willing to teach you in their own car.

Can’t even rent a stick shift to practice on. Your best bet is to sign up with a driving school that offers stock shift lessons, which I almost did.

Instead, a buddy of mine was kind enough to let me practice for 2 hours with him in a beater he had. Then I went and picked up my brand new WRX. Stalled like 12 times on the way home. But I figured it out!!

Idk, I leverage Slack huddles regularly and have absolutely no issues with multiple people hanging out and having casual conversations while working. We do these spontaneously throughout the day.

How old are your coworkers generally? My company is mostly on the younger side of things. We grew up with team speak, steam voice chat, and now are often in discord. This is not unfamiliar territory and has always worked well outside of the office.

The thing is I spent a LOT of time in voice chats playing games as a kid. It always worked well then. It hasn’t changed at all. I don’t need to be on a video call. I jump into a voice chat channel and hang out. People come and go, and are quiet for the most part.

Having come from an office environment where everyone worked in cubes, it truly is no different. I don’t need to be face to face with coworkers, because I wasn’t face to face for most of the conversations we had in the office. We’d stare at our screens and talk over the walls.

When we were looking at each other’s faces, it was in the conference room. Those formal meetings are effectively replaced with video calls - and more often are effectively replaced with emails like they should be.

This probably largely depends on your field. But for me, my productivity is higher working from home, because at least at home I can choose when to tune out the noise. In the office, management was personally offended by me listening to music while working alone. I was told to focus on my paycheck if I needed help focusing.

My company is complete work from home. The issue is that people can’t imagine coworkers talking to each other and being friends while working remotely.

I spend half of most days in spontaneous voice chats with coworkers where we have these exact same moments. Spontaneous discussions leading to ideas that change the way we do things.

It’s not exclusive to being in an office. You just need to adapt to a new work style.

Both the image gallery and the A+ content showed a picture of the supplement facts panel. The top rated review for the product called out that they liked the 25g of protein per serving.

Customer messages me, “How much protein per serving? Doesn’t say anywhere on the listing.”

I used to fly a lot. I’m at the point where I board the plane, sit, close my eyes, and wake up when we start pulling into the gate at our destination.

Worked at a company where I built their entire Amazon sales channel. Literally brought in millions in revenue. Dealt with a lot of shit throughout, and didn’t get paid nearly enough.

They had been dangling the promise of a bonus structure or commission in front of me for a year.

Boss flipped out over stupid shit regularly.

Throughout COVID, they expected us to be in office. This went as well as could be expected and the office became a huge transmission vector.

But what finally did it was being brought into the owner’s office and getting told “We just bought this company. We need you to learn their 3PL system, learn their website backend, and manage their inventory levels. If this goes well, you might even get a raise in a few months.”

I was gone within a month.
