  • Oh man, that rail-to-trail sounds great! I hope it gets completed sooner than later!

Make sure you email whoever is working on that and tell them how much you appreciate their work and are looking forward to biking it! I’ve written to my local council on a few occasions and told them how much I appreciate what they’re doing with specifics about how it effects me personally which can be anything from increased safety, lower environmental impact, improved physical & mental health, just plain fun, or connecting more with your family/friends/community etc. The more they hear that they’re having a positive impact on people and their community the more they’ll be motivated to push ahead with new projects!

  • Aren’t you basically doing what this shop owner is complaining about? Conflating properly regulated, speed-limited e-bikes (which are mostly pedal-assist) with overpowered, illegal imports that function more like motorbikes (often with a throttle).

Admittedly, the line can blur, especially with unregulated imports bypassing local laws. But in places with sensible regulations, e-bikes are capped at speeds like 25 km/h—slower than conventional bikes can reach, but that’s a good thing, given their added weight and potential for greater harm in collisions.

The battery issue is real, but it’s not unique to e-bikes. Cheap, poorly made power cells plague everything from hoverboards to scooters. The problem isn’t e-bikes themselves—it’s sketchy imports circumventing safety standards.

  • Nice! My beach is 20km each way as well. 15km if I go by a more direct route but the way I go adds 5km and is marginally safer. Part of the more direct route is being improved this year but it still doesn’t quite link up but instead will go out to another beach north of my current fave spot. Looking fowards to having an alternative place to go but it’s not quite as scenic as the coastal route I currently enjoy. It does mostly follow a river, so still pretty nice, but the other way you get to see the sea a lot more!

  • My prefered ride is out to the beach and specifically to a seaside cafe to sit and have a coffee while staring at the ocean! I’m fortunate that as long as I go via town there are cycleways almost the entire way. Also, we have cycleways to neighbouring small towns that are often entirely separated from the road. I still haven’t biked along all of them. So in general just explore and get to know any cycleways you may have nearby and see where they take you.

Also don’t forget to be a tourist in your own back yard and visit all the places people come from far and wide to see. It’s easy to take things for granted just because they’ve always been there.

  • Things I’ve seen people doing while driving: taking phone calls without using hands free, adjusting their stereo or AC or any number of other buttons that are off to the side and usually require looking down, reaching across to get something out of the glove box, texting, putting on makeup, reading a book!?

When I got hit by a car while riding my bike I was wearing high vis, it was daytime, I was in a cylcle lane, they were on a giveway/yield and yet some people I told about it after the fact STILL implied it was probably my fault because I didn’t see them or wasn’t looking for random maniacs running giveways?! I WAS looking and DID see them but you only have so much time to react and the choice between slowing down versus speeding up to avoid impact is not so clear when you only have seconds at best and your brain is going FUCKSHITFUCKWHATDOIDO?!

  • Yeah, I’m fullly aware of all the other 9s used which is why I suggested they could just as easily say they’re aiming for 7 9s or as Amazon does, 9 9s or any other basically impossible to hit asperational goal that’s nice to try for but for SOME REASON the most often quoted / used one is 6 9s? Coincidence you say? Is it super important to aim for 30 seconds per year versus about 5 min per year? Why not aim for 3 seconds / year rather than 30 seconds? Because then you can’t say 6 9 Nice! That’s literally the only reason right?

  • LOL That number of nines is specifically referenced by an industry dominated by tech bros though. It could just as easily be 5 9s or 7 9s but for some reason it has to be 6 9s? And I know it’s a recurring joke for LTT but that doesn’t mean you should put it, or ANY joke into an apology video of all things?! What were they THINKING?! Besides it’s a tired and souless attempt at humour that should’ve been retired years ago

  • You don’t have to actually be able to do it yourself for it to be beneficial. If I am, lets just say for the sake of argument, completely hopeless and don’t know my quick web search pentalobes from my tri-points I should still be able to take a thing to a repair shop and they should be able to use standard tools to open it and use standard or at least affordable parts to repair it. We’re not talking about “changing oil is hard” because you can take your car to a workshop and they’ll do it for you. We’re talking about you can’t change the oil, you have to throw the car away and buy a new one.

  • From what I’ve briefly read China (and many other countries) have regulated that e-bikes must be under a certain weight (55kg) and top speed (25km/h) and anything over that is no longer considered an e-bike but rather a moped/motorbike that needs everything a motorbike would require i.e you have to get a licence to drive it and registration/plates.

It sounds resonable to me as the lines between an e-bike and e-motorbike got blurred real quick. Besides there’s no way these wheelchairs are faster or more convenient than even a regulated e-bike?? Or am I missing something?? I guess you can ride them right into your office/up to your desk…

  • LOL I was like, I know about this, I can help! I play on Realms with my Nephews (but we’re both on Bedrock) and then I read @[email protected]’s comment and yeah, you should go with their advice 🤣

The older Nephew and I prefer survival but my younger Nephew only plays creative so the kinda wonky solution we came up with is we’d start up a survival game and every now and then I’d say OK, we’re going into creative mode and I’d switch over and let the younger nephew stock up on stacks upon stacks of their favourite blocks, spawn eggs, whatever they wanted then we’d switch back to survival. The two of us would go back to laboriously branch mining for precious diamonds and building a modest base out of cobble and oak planks while he would be building a mansion out of diamond blocks and sea-lanterns 😀
