The less you know about your history, the easier it is to imagine you’d always be on the right side of it.
Our societies have a tendancy to be more authoritarian, autocratic and consumption driven. The way the corporations are using anyone’s data is not transparent and there is no accountability for it. There is also no monetary reward for the use of my data.
Therefore, I prefer to use open source apps and federated SM.
So to answer your question, I would like transparency and accountability about my data usage, as well as compensation. And no I would not like more ads. Since I realise that my preferences are impossible, I try to make the switch I referred above
If you are referring to corporate “free” products such as email, cloud and media consumption, I use them until I’m able not to and switch to open source. ex. Gmail -> protonmail Google Drive, photos, contacts -> Next Cloud YouTube -> Jellyfin etc. If you’re referring to corporate Social Media, I just refrain from using them, except FB at the minimum due to contact with old relatives. For other Social Media consumption, I ditched Tweeter (or X or whatever) and Reddit, never used Instagram and TikTok. Switched to Federated SM like Lemmy (Duh!!!) and Mastodon.
TLDR. I value my data, but I draw the line in accordance with my ability to afford it
Productivity has increased disproportialy to workers pay the last 40 years. Working less days and less hours is only fair considering that most of the benefits went to the employers side. 4 day/ 20 hour weeks should be the norm. And people should be able to work from home for as long as possible to avoid commuting and the barbaric micromanagement of the low/middle admins
edit: gramar
that’s possibly the best explanation of the difference between a corporate social or other media and a decentralised open source one.
You should concentrate your efforts to live, not just survive.
That depends only on the competition.
20 years ago I payed €65 for 4Mbps. Now I m paying €25 for 200Mbps + a landline with unlimited local calls + an android box (that I use for PLEX and retro gaming) that provides 50+ channels through an app. That was the last renewal.
I also switched my cell provider. I used to pay €42 for unlimited calls, SMS and Data. Now I pay €25 for the whole package.
Unfortunately, they fucked around for us to find out. I don’t feel bad if they find out a little bit too.
I didn’t knew that
You could buy fairphone if you don’t want to wait and your battery can’t handle it anymore
I think we as workers lack imagination through negotiation.
It would be interesting to experiment. Next time unions discuss raises they should suggest ex. instead of a 5% raise, a 5% reduction in working hours for the same pay which is the same outcome productivity wise.
It would be very interesting to examine the initial reactions to the suggestion.
I consider myself antifascist and antirussia (in its current state) at the same time
Spread the word brother. You’re doing lord’s work
Firefox with add-ons. Especially, but not only, Ublock Origin.
Algorithmic Addiction from Social Media consumption. An analogy would be Caffeine addiction from coffee consumption.
Most people who use smartphones are addicts and are far from being aware of it.
As everyone else here, I think piracy is illegal and immoral. We should accept that we don’t own our services and software and we should never doubt that corporations have our best interest in mind.
Therefore you should never have a Plex server, never use protonmail, never use AdGuard Home, never use AdGuard DNS for private DNS.
Also you should never use Firefox with UBlock origin sponsorblock and consent o magic.
Lastly you should never ever use re-vanced and x-manager, and God forbid don’t use a VPN
