Yeah, that’s my first assumption when a college student is coming home after midnight. Especially if something bad happens.

I’m on lemm.ee, running the iOS TestFlight version of voyager. Here is what I get when I use the “…” menu to share a comment on this post:
https://lemmy.world/comment/2894198
Edit: yep, same issue for me. When I got to safari and go to the url, It wants to download something instead of going to the comment.
Edit 2: this doesn’t appear to be a voyager specific issue. I navigated to this comment in safari while logged out of lemmy - so directly on lemmy.world. If I press the link button on a comment (next to the user name), it opens the comment as expected. BUT if I try to use the url it took me to, I get the “download” issue.
Edit 3: I tried the same thing on a lemm.ee comment and didn’t have an issue on initial testing. My assumption is that this is, indeed, a lemmy.world problem.
I hear you. I’m trying to be hopeful, but agree there is a good chance the shooter was looking for a reason to shoot.
The article is really light on details - all I see is the guy was trying to enter the wrong house and was dead on the front porch. Hopefully (for lack of a better term), the student was actively entering the house and threatening the shooter. Maybe he was shot in the doorway and collapsed on the porch, or was shot inside the house and retreated to the porch before collapsing.
And, of course, it could be a psycho who just shot at the first perception of a possible threat.
Situation sucks no matter what.
Alarmed (iOS only, unfortunately). It allows you to set nagging reminders with notifications and has great features for snoozing a reminder or setting up routine reminders.
It’s great for ADHD. I basically use it for my schedule I’ll have it remind me the morning of something (or the day before depending on the event), when the reminder comes up, I’ll snooze it to to just before I have to leave.
I had been using apples “reminders”, which just seem to disappear into the ether if you happen to miss the notification.
Yeah, makes sense that it’s just a general commentary on the moral panic of the time.
I remember my (amazing) grandma giving me birthday money and saying “but it’s not for Magic (the Gathering) cards. I’m afraid those are Evil.”
Even at 10, I was just thinking “money is money, I’ll just spend different money on MTG cards…”
I’m trying to figure this one out. Is it simply a cult that dresses up animals instead of sacrificing them? Is there a pun there I’m not seeing?
The comic is copyright 1993. I see that Waco (Branch Davidian Cult) occurred in 1993. On a quick search, It looks like they dressed nice but simple, which doesn’t seem to fit with the fancy hat and jewlery.
Lol. One recommendation: when arguing about copyright, don’t substitute physical goods for material that can be easily duplicated when making an argument. Substitute a patent? Sure. Substitute a different type of copyrighted (or copyright adjacent) material? Sure. But it’s really hard to get past the fundamental difference between stealing a physical good — in which the person you’re stealing from no longer has the item — and copying a good, in which now both people have the item.
To compare stealing a car with stealing digital goods, it would go more like: how would you feel if someone snuck over and built an exact duplicate of your car and drove it away?
Dunno. My account isn’t on either instance. If beehaw is federated with your instance, you would be able to post.
It looks like [email protected] is the biggest. Search communities for “foss”
Force close the app. Didn’t fix it? Restart your phone. Didn’t fix it? Delete and reinstall the app. (Warning, you’ll lose your data)
If I recall correctly, he says it is hard on his vocal chords to do the voice. Have you read something where he says he wants to keep doing the voice acting? Or might he be happy to move to an easier role?
I think the axe factors in here too. I would guess those are farmed ducks and the axe is what the farmer used to dispatch them. So the ducks killed him to save themselves (or as vengeance. Or both.)
Side comment: I just looked at your profile and saw your most recent comment regarding you realizing you came in with a close mindset and now realize that. Good on you! You’re young and learning. I totally get the general “cars bad” mindset. I wish that at least US cities and major suburbs were designed to be livable without cars. Some are, or at least some areas are, of course, but cars and car infrastructure almost always comes first.
Getting away from needing cars would be awesome and it should become a bigger goal in the US. I don’t disagree with you at all there.
Keep in mind that the US is BIG and, from an area perspective, a vast majority is rural. Out there, cars really are a necessity. Maybe there are long term solutions to reduce the dependence on cars in rural areas, but I have a hard time imagining what they are. Keep in mind that rural means that there simply isn’t the population density to support public transit because, pretty much by definition, rural areas don’t have centralized locations for people to be picked up at; small numbers of people are going long distances to a variety of places.
That said, cities and big towns are the “low hanging fruit” for reducing car reliance with by far the largest return on investment.
Edit: it’s great to be passionate and have goals. It’s great to want to reduce or eliminate reliance on cars. But, as I think you’ve learned here, you need to keep perspective on what is practical and recognize the system people are currently living in. When you revcieve new information that doesn’t fit with your view, think about it and learn. It doesn’t mean you are wrong or your overall goal is a bad one, but it’s good to understand the perspective of people you disagree with. In this example, take the reasons people give for needing a car and try to understand those reasons. Assuming that people are giving vailid reasons, try to figure out how we might be able to change things so that those people don’t need to rely on cars. Don’t tell them “just ride a bike”. In many many situations, that isn’t reasonable. Instead, try to figure out how we, as a society, can fix this over the long term.
Cheers!
Maybe look up what rural means.
I just searched Amazon for “wire shelf connectors” and got lots of results. I’d check measurements, but here is one result that might work:
Dailydanny Wire Cube Plastic Connector 50Pcs Wire Grid Cube Organizer Connector for Modular Closet Storage Organizer and Wire Shelving (White) https://a.co/d/aQjeY8N
I suspect that this a simultaneously an unpopular and opinion. From the perspective of internet culture, dunking on Arby’s and making it into a meme is popular (and therefore liking it is unpopular). On the other hand, I think the “silent majority” (including me) agree with you. So while it’s popular to say that Arby’s sucks, the more common opinion is “yeah, I’ll eat that”.
Edit: just in case this sounds like a criticism of your post, it’s not meant to be. It’s just a thought I found interesting.
Lol. Yeah, I get it. Plus, on other social media where liking your own stuff isn’t the default, liking your own content feels dirty. So if that’s what your used to, I can see the negative reaction. Especially if you thought it was an app-specific feature and not the global default.
If you’re worried because you feel like the app is trying to promote your post/comment by upvoting it, then don’t worry. This is the default action on lemmy (and Reddit). Essentially every post and comment starts with a score of 1, so that is what people expect.
If you were to find a way to disable this for yourself (or manually remove the vote), I think that your post will get buried because the algorithm “expects” a score of 1 and your post would basically look like it was instantly disliked, receiving worse ranking for anyone browsing by anything but New. Note, I don’t know exactly how the algorithms work, so it’s possible that I am incorrect here. I could also see the algorithm ignoring the OP’s vote and your post ending up in the same position.
Additionally, with a score of 0, people are more likely to skip over it, thinking it’s bad content. Or, even worse, hive-mind downvote it.
I recommend starting with season 4. Then if you end up liking it, loop back to seasons 1-3. This is old TV where each episode is made to stand on its own.
