  • Great so why can’t he take 30 seconds out of a year to say that? I’m sure people would understand. The issue everyone is having is the lack of updates. So essentially yes it is abandoned. No updates either way, no word from developer either way been over a year = abandoned.

Great he responded to you but did he say when the next update will be? Or explain the lack of updates? I mean we could all makes guesses but the fact of the matter is it’s been abandoned and in its current state is broken. There is no reason to use it.

Additionally this is hurting Lemmy in general. People will try to use sync for Lemmy because it’s familiar and not realize the issues they are having are with sync because it’s broken not Lemmy. Then stop using Lemmy. I know you’re well intentioned but you shouldn’t give people hope when you know nothing more than anyone else.

  • I mean all of that is good and well but basically all of this is just your assumption. Its nice that you “believe” this but you don’t speak for the developer.

My issue is we have heard nothing at all from the developer. If the project was alive or just moving slowly I’d imagine we would hear something. Literally anything but we haven’t. If youre going to take people’s money be direct and just let people know what to expect. It’s not difficult to do. That’s great you sent issues to the developer when’s that update coming to fix it? This week, next year, never…

  • Not to say I’m not annoyed and they definitely should not be doing this except for their enterprise line. Would I buy another Synology again, no definitely not.

However most “consumers” buying a NAS are already pretty tech savvy. When this issue happened to me I googled it and found and applied the script in 15 or so minutes. Run the script essentially once a year or so when major updates come along. Hasn’t been a huge issue. The issue will be if /when they block this script or other fixes.

  • I basically run this setup, Synology nas for storage and a nuc12 for proxmox. Things like pihole I run on both for HA. You will also have a much better experience using Plex on an Intel NUC with quick assist.

As mentioned above the helper scripts will save you a ton of time. You should definitely check them out. Proxmox allows you to easily backup and restore. So its much easier to tinker and play around without taking down the whole network.

  • Seems like a decent build. Really depends on what the use case though is for your Dad. GPU pricing is just crazy. For that price id try and find a 9070xt or a equivalent Nvidia GPU. If you can get away with an igpu might be worth spending money saved on the GPU for a better CPU with an igpu and more ram.

Personally I’m trying to build something similar and an really struggling between just getting a ryzen AI 395 in a desktop with ~128gb ram and hoping that’ll hold me over till discrete gpus come down in price instead of trying to buy one now. But it doesn’t seem like they ever will…

  • Why is it so hard to believe someone has been to Ukraine? like really? I’ve also been to Poland many times and have family there. Just FYI Ukraine borders Poland. Not really difficult traveling between the two. You may have never left Russia (I’ve been there too) but plenty of people travel to other countries this is not a rare thing. I’m sorry if you have not had the opportunity to travel but would highly recommend you do so. I think it would help you a lot.

History is history and you can’t change it. Russia is the aggressor here (and in many other places, they have a pretty consistent playbook) it’s not really up for debate (though I’m sure you’ll continue to try).

  • I’m not sure how anyone would read that article knowing anything about Ukraine and not immediately realize this article is biased and misleading. It is certainly bending the truth. I think only a stupid person would try and defend it.

P.S. I’ve personally been to Ukraine and also know people who are currently there. So I’ll take my first person account over you or you’re purposely misleading article.

  • Here’s what you need to know- consortium news in 2016, the website was listed by PropOrNot as a “Russian propaganda outlet,” a claim Consortium News strongly disputes, arguing it challenges mainstream narratives and exposes bias in media.

Article really is totally bias towards Russia and leaves out many well documented facts or any facts that would take away from the Russian narrative that Russian is the victim.

Interesting to read for the sole fact it gives you insight into what the Russian propaganda machine is pumping out.
