Ich hatte das FP4. Ich finde das Konzept toll und unterstützenswert. Ich bin auch der Meinung, dass der Preis nicht mal im Vergleich zu anderen Telefonen überzogen ist, selbst wenn man nur das Produkt bewertet und nicht den Herstellungsprozess, einfach weil ich durch die Updates und die Reparierbarkeit das Gerät ja auch viel länger benutzen kann.

Trotzdem habe ich das FP4 nicht lange benutzt und werde mir voraussichtlich auch nicht das FP5 kaufen.

• Der Formfaktor ist beschissen. Das Telefon ist einfach zu riesig. Ich bin damit wohl die Minderheit, aber ich nutze aktuell ein s10e und das ist schon echt obere Grenze. Was soll ich mit einem Telefon, das ich nicht mit einer Hand bedienen kann? Das war beim FP4 schon mein größtes Problem und das wird es hier bleiben.
• Die Kamera scheint nicht groß anders zu sein als die des FP4, und die war schlecht. Punkt. Sobald die Beleuchtung schlechter wurde, und das war schon in Innenräumen tagsüber der Fall, waren kaum noch saubere Aufnahmen möglich.
• Die Software ist unausgereift gewesen… Bugs waren bei mir beim FP4 echt an der Tagesordnung. Sorry, aber dann bringt mir auch das Updateversprechen nicht wirklich was.
• Das Mikrofon… Ich weiß echt nicht, wie man in den 20ern noch ein Telefon auf den Markt bringen kann, bei dem das ein Problem ist, aber teilweise ist es echt schwer zu verstehen, was die Person sagt, die das FP4 benutzt - und ich habe nirgends gelesen, dass das verbessert wurde.
• Kein Kopfhörerausgang. Ja, haben viele nicht mehr. Aber das nervt.

Ich finde es geradezu jammerschade. Jedes einzelne der Argumente ist für sich nicht mal ein Dealbreaker, aber zusammen halten sie mich da echt vom Kauf ab. Echt schade. Überzeugt mich gerne von Gegenteil, ich will das Ding mögen, aber im Moment warte ich echt eher auf das neue Xperia 5 - oder zur Not einen guten Deal für ein s23 oder das Pixel 7a.

There’s also threema which is pretty tried and tested and quite popular where I live (and also not connected to weird crypto schemes) but it of course has the same issue.

Ah, the 10 is already out… I checked the 9. So at least it’ll be one more year of updates, but it still just is really not much for a device that’s 850 €.

That wasn’t on my radar, but the same point that kinda keeps me away from the Sony that I’d really like to like otherwise applies to the zenfone as well: really short update cycles. The zenfone even more so, as the Sony is just about to be released while the zenfone is already available for almost a year. I tend to keep my phones longer, so that really is a factor.

It’s too damn big. I got a Fairphone 4 and got rid of it because I just couldn’t properly use it (and because of the poor camera performance on top of that). Now they’re releasing an even bigger phone? I may be the minority here, but that’s a deal breaker for me. I’ll need a new phone in the next few months, but right now I’m only considering the s23 or the Xperia 5 V, just because everything else is just too fucking huge.

In Europe, vacations are paid time off. That wouldn’t work with unlimited days.

Again just shows how subjective this all is. American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown are my absolute favourites of their albums.

Europe never used J1772, so that standard won’t be replaced over here. Europe standardised IEC 62196 Type 2 (the “Mennekes” plug) in 2013, so the whole question doesn’t apply to the EU.

Man, I love that album and that track in particular. That said, I couldn’t watch this video… The cringe was too much.

No, it’s not. It’s just not. The important question is how the law is written. Wild guess: they won’t target “browsers”. They’ll target “means to display remote content” or some shit to not have people rename browsers to surfers to evade that law. And depending on how generic they’ll make it sound, it’ll be a pain for not only every piece of software but maybe also stuff like digital binoculars or phone sex companies or whatever.

Europas Geschichte zeigt, dass internationale Zusammenarbeit die beste Vorbeugung für Krieg ist.

Hätte da bis vor zwei Jahren vorbehaltlos zugestimmt… Russland scheint aber auf solche Zusammenarbeit und ihren Wert nicht so viel zu geben…
