I’ll add to the bias. I created both a kbin account and a Lemmy.one account when the migration happened. Preferred kbin’s look and feel, then changed over to mbin when Ernest started having issues. Haven’t looked back, mbin is great.
Profile pic is from Jason Box, depicting a projection of Arctic warming to the year 2100 based on current trends.

The fan of the game that spends more time in the official forums defending the company’s bad decisions than actually playing.
“WE APOLOGIZE FOR THE INCONVENIENCE”
Don’t forget Florida trying to weaken child labor laws. MAGA. If the mine was good enough for great grandpa, it’s good enough for you.
Obscenity isn’t protected by the First Amendment
Is this the same Constitution that they’re pissing on with everything else? It most certainly does protect it. Do NOT use the “think of the children” shit when your actions towards children safety has been the complete opposite. Hell, I saw news today of further cuts being pursued for Medicare, as well as past things on cutting school lunches and of course the destruction of the DoE. You do NOT care about children, do not bring them into this.
To be fair, the Air Force will be stripping it down as they modify it for the needs of the office. But all it takes is one thing missed to be a huge problem. This just isn’t a great idea at all, but they knew he’d jump at it because hey, free plane that he gets to keep.
That’s a good bias to have. Situations are always different, and not only the cost or ability to catch things in time, but also the consideration of the quality of life if treatment is pursued. We had a dog and later a cat that both got diagnosed with kidney disease of some sort, both were very sudden and terrible to see an active pet turn lethargic and waste away in days or weeks. We could have thrown money at it and bought some time, but they would have been miserable with the needed operations and regular dialysis to keep them alive. The choice there was easy.
Glad to see you’re on the other side of that with something controllable and a happy companion.
Actually it’s no, then yes, and then… not illegal or stated conditionals, but come on. Every political action has some significance of benefit, even if they state “we just like you, bro”.
The aircraft normally used by the President and other high officials are more than some luxury vehicle. So is this coming with all the features of the existing 747s used, and will it be disassembled before use to make sure it’s not bugged?
Also, quid pro quo and all that. What’s the catch?
I think the consistency can be resolved by proposing that how damaging a jump into hyperspace is depends on at what point it is intercepted. Holdo was an expert in combat and so knew the distance needed to get the greatest impact. And maybe didn’t even realize how big it would be, after all it was a desperate move to try and buy time and not a used tactic because of the cost vs. payoff. When the Executor drops in right in the middle of things there isn’t enough distance to get to a full “detonation” effect, plus do we fully see if there is no damage at all?
Basically just like some explosives, you can have a full effect or a fizzle that does minor damage, depending how how it is set off. Holdo was (probably) planning or hoping for maximum effect, while the rebels at Scarif were just trying to get away and had no clue there’d be something in the way.
The brightest candles burn the fastest. I’ve had my share too, but they had good lives and made our lives better in that short time.
There are unfortunately some cat diseases and genetics where they don’t make it that far. Feline leukemia and diabetes are two that I’ve seen end cat lives far too early, and when they go downhill it’s both quick and tragic to see them change. A typical cat who is cared for will definitely make it past 15.
And maybe most importantly, lacking any empathy for others. Even if they were right and they were on The Team while others suffered… to be happy about that with no compassion at all towards other human beings is a terrible way to live a life.
Frunk is probably European origin, since it was being used for rear/mid engine vehicles long before EVs.
I didn’t think of the finger severer. Yes, it’s probably a safety feature to counter the bad design.
I thought it was required for hoods to have a secondary manual latch in case of failure in the first (the main latch that you pop up). For the very reason you state - cars early on didn’t have such a safety backup and were dangerous. Not all codes should result in crippling a car. Unless… there isn’t a backup latch because of some loophole and Elon thought it would be smart to rely on electronics to always work. But these vehicles also have a bad history with trapping people inside in an emergency, so…
Not a great time for that given the UPS layoffs. UPS is hardly a perfectly spotless company itself. I get it, participation means you could have chosen not to work for them and thereby not been connected in some way to the problem. But to be 100% guilt-free I’m not sure if anyone could be associated with any capitalistic entity, or even use their services.
Using an excuse made by Nazis and other military criminals when they murdered people to pin any potential future corruption actions of a company board leader on someone just doing a hourly job is… a bit of a reach.
I’m appalled at the continued erosion of what should be a federal service to the public, but the blame for that is not someone delivering packages. If anything going this route is a misdirection.
So you’d blame the delivery driver for something that’s totally beyond his control?
Reverse inflation says that 1970 dollars that would be about $5400. Don’t know how useful that is without knowing (remembering, which I don’t) the cost of things then.
On another note, the current poverty line is $15k for a single person. I can’t see how someone could afford a place to live and eat with that in most places. I guess if you share a place with a few other people.
