  • Have you heard the original meat puppet versions? Nirvana basically covered them exactly.

Not saying that’s bad. But when you look at songs like “All along the washer tower” by Jimi, or “Whiskey in the Jar” by Metallica. Those covers are completely changed to fit their style. In my mind, that’s what makes a cover great.

A lot of Nirvana’s style is the Meat Puppets

Good covers, but they lack original twists. Meat Puppets even played the music in the unplugged performance. So really it’s wasn’t Nirvana covering them as much as Kurt Cobain singing.

It’s what I have against Weezer’s cover of Toto’s Africa. Good cover, but it doesn’t scream Weezer at all.

  • Would you rather have 2-3 lines with cashiers or 6+ self checkouts?

I would say I would get out of the store way faster doing self checkout. I call that efficient.

Places like Sam’s Club with their Scan and Go checkout. I can scan all my groceries with my phone as I put them into my cart. Then I just walk under an arch with cameras that scans what barcodes it can. Then I walk out the door. I don’t even have to wait in line or go to a self checkout.

    Cashiers aren’t efficient

If the company had to pay cashiers, then the prices of goods are just going to go up. Corporate execs and board members want the money.

So, do you let the Corporate execs and board members save money and hope not to raise prices (maybe lower them), or make them pay a cashier so they are going to raise prices.

Even though I hate the “please place the item in the bag!” “Unscaned item in bagging area!”. Self checkouts are efficient, and the future.

  • 8 hous at $15 an hour is $120

Two security cameras. At most $2000

Assuming the register is basically the same price

Do you want to pay a person to stand and scan groceries for 2 weeks for $1200?

Or do you want to spend $1200 on cameras that will last years?

    30k+ a year vs. $1200 once

People could steal 29k worth of stuff, and the company would still makes the same profit.

The cameras are basically security theater anyways. No one is ever going to watch the footage unless needed.

    The efficiency is definitely there

  • ~50% of men probably wear a size 9-11 shoe

    That’s a “Large” sock

Man with a size 8 shoe could probably still wear a “Large” sock and be fine.

    ~75% of women wear a size 7-9

Women with 6 or 6.5 should still be able to wear a 7-9 sized sock.

    Families have genetically similar feet

I know from my experience, my father, my brother, and I all wear the same size. We all had different preferences and our own socks, but I could have easily worn their socks.

  • “Free”

    Nothing is free

Someone paid for the fountain. Either you, your neighbor, your friend, or your fellow countryman. But someone.

Why nickel and dime everyone that is probably never going to even see the fountain instead of letting the people that want/need pay for it?

Cold filtered water at just a single park you regularly go to is probably worth 3 bucks a month.

If extra money went to park improvements, that would be even better.

I don’t see why everyone wants “free” when it’s just a hidden cost that you’re probably paying anyways. Yes, probably costs more for the people that use the service more, but that’s the way it should be.

Personally I’d rather save 20 dollars on my taxes and bring water to the park. Even still tap water is just fine.

Why would I even want to pay 5 dollars more in taxes so someone doesn’t have to bring a water bottle?

This is a premium service that shouldn’t be the burden of the taxpayer.

  • There’s nothing more scary than a person with nothing to lose

So, person that just screwed up their life. Who wants to hire a felon? How is a felon supposed to get to work in Texas without transportation? You’re going to now take a large chunk out of their paycheck?

People are struggling in Texas that aren’t a felon, can drive a car, and get to keep all their paycheck.

How is a person realistically supposed to overcome basically losing everything?

Driving without a license is this person’s last concern, and probably some alcohol will make them feel better…

  • You missed the point of what I was saying

2 tb flash drives are expensive but exist

Pigeon could carry 4 tb in 2 flash drives worth of weight.

But simply 3 1 tb drives a pigeon can carry so they did that.

If they had to transfer 5 tb of data to win. 3 2 tb drives would have worked.

This article just states that a pigeon can carry 3 1 tb drives and deliver it faster than gigabit internet.

They didn’t need to push the envelope anymore

So yes they calculated that the pigeon could carry 3 drives and that 3 tb was all that was needed to carry to win.

But they didn’t set up the experiment to favor the pigeon. They set it up to prove it could be done that way.

  • Yes and no.

If you could put a 1 petabyte flash drive on a pigeon, it would easily crush the gigabit internet

Does a 1 petabyte flash drive exist? Could it exist?

They put 3 stripped-down terabyte flash drives on the pigeon. Could it carry more weight?

You get to the point where the pigeon can’t carry the weight.

All this is saying that sending data by pigeon can be faster and using 3 tb sticks proves it.

If it needed to be 4 tb, then they would have had to use 4 sticks. If it couldn’t carry 4 sticks, then you have your answer that the pigeon can’t do it with current technology.

  • That’s not zipper merging. That’s just poor merging. I guess technically you can zipper merge on a ramp if there is traffic, and like you said you’d want to use the whole acceleration lane even though you won’t be accelerating in traffic.

Zipper merging is when 2 lanes goes down to 1 lane

It is better for all cars to use both lanes completely until it gets down to 1 lane.

People don’t understand it in the US.

If a mile down the road you see it going to 1 lane. You shouldn’t try to merge over soon. You should drive all the way down in your lane and merge at the last moment.

But you’ll get a mile long single file line of cars and the few cars that pass are considered assholes trying to cut to the front.

If you broke up that mile long single file line and had two 1/2 mile lines in 2 lanes that zipper merged. Everyone would get through the bottleneck faster.
