Huh, that comic and the responses makes me realize how much people can’t notice their own blind spots, including within the comic itself.

Like in this section with people saying it’s exaggerated or nobody actually talks like that (because they don’t ever perceive it in real life and it seems to ridiculous to be real), and the comic referenced in your link where she says if men were responded to that way, because she apparently can’t see that it is how men are responded to for many of those things, because she’s so used to seeing women as the victims of that stuff perpetrated by mostly men (which is reasonable! What situations would she see the opposite?). What’s telling, though, is the way one side pegs her as a misandrist for it and shit on her work and herself for it, and the other side pegs those for being misogynist for taking issue with her (though, in fairness, some are and will hate on anything by a woman discussing problems for women).

Basically, I feel like this is two groups yelling past each other and being upset about the same issue: gender-based mistreatment. But another key thing is… well, the guys who happen across her comics should recognize that it’s a comic equivalent of TwoXChromosomes from Reddit: it’s by a woman, largely for women, and you should either skip it or read it for a glimpse of a perception you normally don’t experience, not something to argue over. And the women, just like with 2X, should take this stuff with a grain of salt (especially when someone presumes to know what men’s experiences are). Stuff is exaggerated to pinpoint an issue, but you shouldn’t let it poison your view of the world (or men).

Basically, I feel like there’s value in comics like PizzaCake’s, but the heavy commenting should be expected, not hated on. The most value people can get from it would be hearing other perspectives without insulting them for having a different one than your own. Except the actual misogynists (and misandists), they can fuck off, but I think it’s worth giving the benefit of the doubt to start.

I am convinced that vegans today will be like we look at abolitionists like Alexander Hamilton back during the 18th century. People will be horrified that we treated animals so abysmally for convenience, and some will say it was a normal and accepted practice, and people didn’t realize how horrible it was, and others will point to the vegans of today.

Thoughts like those make me a little more understanding of people like George Washington. He recognized it was bad, tried to mitigate it, but still perpetuated the practice. Just like I switched to Impossible Beef and chicken, do my best to buy local family eggs, but buy cheese and milk and ice cream from big name companies like Tillamook and Ben & Jerry’s.

No joke, I’ve heard people say that exact thing in response. That taking God out of schools is what started all this, so if there was more prayer in school, we wouldn’t have shootings.

I have been exceptionally lucky by being in the military because our housing allowance matches the local area (generally slightly behind big market changes, though) or am just given housing with utilities paid and they take the allowance away. Also, VA loans allow for 0% down loans, which means for the same as (or in my experience, less than) rent, you pay mortgage. And the house I bought in 2017 for 180k sold for 300k in 2022 and I did little more than live in it.

Now I’m buying a house where I will be retiring, and it’s 750k. Vicious, but doable. I don’t know how other people live here (VERY high cost of living location in Alaska).

Edit: forgot to add, I’m 41, so working on buying my second house. Hopefully I’ll still be able to afford it in 4 years when I retire.

I’m sorry, but that’s some hilarious Ayn Rand thinking. Prices didn’t go down in grocery stores that added self-checkout, they just made more profit. Companies these days are perfectly comfortable keeping the price the same (or raising them) and just cutting their overhead.

Don’t get me wrong, if there are things they could get more profit by selling more, then they likely would. But I think those items are few and far between. Everything else they just make more money with less workers.

My wife has full permission to use my laptop (and I hers), but if she got on my laptop to search through my photos and videos to try to find something (something bad, that is), I would absolutely call that a breach of trust.

Honestly, it’s needed. Your perspective on this is pretty off, and just typing this out should have told you your behavior was enabling at best, and… well, not going to say what at worst is, let’s leave it at enabling.

The first initial reaction is telling: she’s upset with you for having a previous relationship and instead of being understanding of her insecurities while establishing that being upset and being upset with you are two different things, you were falling all over yourself trying to apologize for having a life before her.

But then she “stumbles” (lol) upon the private video on your laptop and you’re still apologizing and trying to find a way to “make it up to her?”

The long and short of it is she is immature and confusing her own insecurities for your own transgressions, and instead of correcting that you are enabling it. You are her first real relationship, and you are setting her up for failure for all her future relationships because you’re setting the precedent that it’s acceptable. You are bad for her.

And you’re setting yourself up to be an abuse victim in every relationship you have. There’s a difference between empathy and desperation, and I don’t think you have the perspective to see the line right now.

Honestly, I highly suggest some therapy. As far as the relationship? Stop coddling the person who is supposed to be your partner, establish some boundaries, and stop apologizing for having a life before her. She might leave you (because she’s not ready for an adult relationship yet and these shenanigans are helping her learn) or she might not. But a relationship based on you jumping to apologize for her own issues isn’t going to help either of you.

I’ve been hearing a lot of Neville Chamberlains decrying every action to hold Republicans accountable or establish rules to curtail bad behavior as widening the divide, but I’ve yet to see any attempts to bridge that gap(by the Left) have any positive effect, much less get reciprocated.

They don’t care about fairness, or law, or compromise. They only want more, and if you don’t establish boundaries, they’ll keep taking more.

That will certainly be interesting. It may be the reverse of 2016, where this time the Republican voters feel alienated by their party by not giving them the candidate they want, so they just don’t bother voting. It will be pretty amusing if it goes that way.

This is talking about the primary, though. It just means DeSantis (likely) wins the Republican primary in Arizona, which does nothing to affect the lead Trump would have in every other state’s Republican Primary.

So Arizona ends up the only state Trump doesn’t win, because all of the Trump supporters made their own party, with blackjack and hookers sedition and corruption, leaving someone else to win… a single state.

I’ve always thought the Gadsden Flag was for the more Libertarian types, the types that aren’t fundamentalists pushing anti-LGBTQ+ stuff (but also aren’t allies, and are more on the side of letting anti-LGBTQ people deny services and mistreat them as long as the government isn’t doing it), but tend to vote Republican because… I guess because Democrats seem to be more controlling in government (or at least don’t constantly yell about being small government while infringing on freedoms). I live in Alaska, and I see a lot of that here, the fuck off and let me do my own thing, I don’t care what you label yourself as type.

I wouldn’t call them hateful by any stretch. If anything, just apathetic about other people’s health and safety in favor of their own freedoms. Funny enough, I think they’re closest to original Colonists that lived during the revolution, and soon after those governing them saw how untenable that was as a governmental system.

I’m confused at the wording in that sentence. Do they mean there are exceptions for intersex patients and there are also exception for some minors already receiving gender-affirming care (and would have to wean off), or is it saying there are exceptions for intersex and minors already receiving care, but both would have to be weaned off?

If it’s the former, it sounds like intersex people are the only exception, but if it’s the latter it seems like there are none.

Realistically, doesn’t that just mean the vice president is acting president as long as the president is in jail? Does a vote for a president in prison ultimately go toward whoever is their running mate? Could Trump ultimately just choose one of his kids and let them run the country while he’s in prison, like a Mafia family?

The phrasing was intentional, and symmetrical. The point of the phrase is if you are holding out for the perfect, you’ll fail to even get the good. And if you are holding out for a “good” politician (e.g. refusing to vote because your particular chosen politician isn’t in the race), you’ll fail to keep fascists away from power.
