  • Not that it makes it any better, but the billions they have are mostly imaginary. It’s not cash or even concrete numbers on a bank account. It’s just a speculative valuation of what they own and most of the value comes from stocks on a company. Stocks that only have value as long as they are desirable for someone else and there is no surplus of them on the market. They could never cash out that value and even trying to cash out a significant portion would crash the stock price and their wealth. But as long as they possess this assumed wealth, they are granted almost unlimited credit to cover any purchase.

  • While more donations and contributors are always welcome, the thing open source projects really need to break through are project leaders and UX designers to polish the software to make it more appealing.

Blender has come a long way in recent years by concentrating on these. There are also excellent videos by Tantacrul about his work on Musescore and Audacity after he made a video about Musescore and they got in touch with him to fix the problems he brought up.

  • I wish it would just be these small scale maintenance tasks with clear purpose and results. But instead it’s endless uncertainty and insecurity about your health and job and finances where you never know if you have done enough or if your efforts even matter. Keep grinding every day just to be rug pulled by something you could not have anticipated or have no control over. Descaling coffee machine is simple and rewarding: you see a problem, you have the means to address the problem, you do the thing and you have the satisfaction of a job done also reaping the benefits immediately.

  • My interpretation was that setting the soundtrack is a minor tone choise, you’re still going through the movie the GM has made for you. But if the GM is willing, the players may ignore or demolish all the plot points turning the planned Ocean’s 11 to Fast and Furious, or Taken, or Top Gun, or Armageddon except the PCs are the meteorite. Or skip the whole movie and make up their own stage play musical set on the next town over.

EDIT: Everything devolving to Benny Hill still applies, unless there is an actual agreement of the tone everyone should try and uphold.

  • The GM has the power to present a heist, but unless the GM is really railroady, the players have the power to make it a ransom, a demolition job or just ignore everything and join the circus.

One shots, like the few Mörk Borg ones I have recently played, have a higher chance of people doing what the scenario expects, but when a character is given a trait that they only eat named things, the player starts asking and collecting every NPCs name.

  • Pelit-lehti on ollut tässä uranuurtaja ainakin yrittäen kehittää suomenkielisiä vastineita uusille sanoille julkaisuhistorian alusta asti vaihtelevalla menestyksellä. Ainakin moninpeli on käsittääkseni sieltä lähtöisin. Vähemmän menestyneitä on ollut vimmahyökkäys ja täppäri, joista jälkimmäinen kyllä pieksee hesarin yrittämän sormitietokoneen vaikkei arkikieleen päätynytkään.

  • Just have fun and publish anything, no matter how silly it feels. My advice would be more about the preparation:

    • Choose and familiarise yourself with the tools, so you can concentrate more on the game and less learning the tools
    • You don’t have to do everything from scratch, premade assets and reusing your own stuff is not cheating
    • manage your expectations, go through the lower rated entries of previous jams to see what other people have managed
