I am a human, who happened to be browsing lemmy when you answered, and work in ML and with a background in algorithms and HPC. It happened to be a lucky coincidence
Because it cannot be mathematically developed. KPIs as class of algorithm are linear dimensional reductions from a complex hyperspace to a small, arbitrary reference system built on non orthogonal axes, aimed to capture non periodic, non stationary phenomena (i.e. that unpredictably evolve over time).
Mathematically, performance kpi do not make much sense for most jobs, unless the job is so straightforward that the hyperspace has such low complexity that KPIs are meaningful representation. Not even a call center job has such mathematical characteristics…
As a task, AGI is mathematically much simpler task.
However performance kpis are the only thing many have to judge, as they lack technical and personal skills to do otherwise. It’s a tradeoff, but we must recognize that kpi are oversimplifications with extreme loss of information, many time useless
Don’t know what to answer.
Normal and healthy mammals relationships start with courtship display https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Courtship_display.
It is the normal behavior in humans as well. Not doing it would be pretty unusual, and probably worrying.
The difference is that in Italy, girls used to require a long, complex and time consuming courtship. One night stands were not even a thing, they were unthinkable, some fantasy from Hollywood movies.
North European girls not only had much lower expectations from men, required much less effort, but many of them even proactively started the process themselves, flirting and clearly communicating their intentions. This made the process particularly straightforward, but it also didn’t allow local men to improve their communication skills. Therefore average Italians looked extremely good with women: charming, listeners, caring… Despite the language barriers
I don’t know if it is still valid tough, I have been married for a long time
What evidence do one needs other than the opinion of their teammates and lead?
No one should drop players from a team due to statistics. Otherwise you’d have a non functional team of cheap wannabe-Ronaldos unable to function. Which is the reason kpi based approach fails
UK is one of the 3 countries I mentioned! Nights out in uk were a pretty strong (positive) surprise for me
I don’t know how it is now. I am an old millennial that has been “out of the market” for over 15 years. It might have changed due to social media.
I can’t say if it was all of Italy, because it’s rather big. But from discussions with other Italians, it was a pretty general feeling, particularly for those from south of Italy.
Male being good at talking and flirting with girls. Where I grew up (south of Italy) you have to be able to know what to do as a young heterosexual man, otherwise girls would completely ignore you. When I was young, italian girls expected “work” from boys, a lot of work. You could not throw money or take shortcuts (I don’t know if it is still valid).
When I moved to north of Europe, in 3 different countries, I realized that for north european guys existing was enough to get many girls. It was so easy, girls flirt with you, they literally go after boys. You could do nothing and a girl would start flirting with you. And being decent at talking with girls meant that any average Italian guy abroad was a Don Giovanni.
I unfortunately have to deal with it daily at work… With a premium laptop that cost thousands, and it is extremely less performant than much smaller and older machines with linux (I use linux at work as well).
I am not saying anything controversial. It is literally the reason why windows professionally is used for accountants, but it is practically never used for tasks that require performances, reliability, stability and long term maintainability.
Most casual users live with these issues, many move to mac, few move to linux. Victims of corporate IT like me must justify the budget to avoid the standard laptop and get the overpriced piece of extremely powerful hardware to have a daily experience slightly better than a raspberry pi running on respbian. Because outlook…
Slowness of the system that increase with time since last reinstallation of the OS, dll conflicts (you also have a Wikipedia page https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/DLL_Hell), corrupted registry, conflicting drivers, configurations, libraries.
I am not saying anything controversial, it is one among the main complaints about windows, together with worse resource management and less general stability.
That’s the reason you find windows for accountants, but no one uses windows for complex systems that have to be stable, reliable and maintainable.
Many casual users live with these issues, many move to mac, few move to linux
There no real control of what and how you installed stuff. This create long term issues. This is why you perform registry clean up. But it is not enough, because of orphaned and conflicting dlls, inconsistent installation paths, conflicting versions. You probably don’t see just because you are used to the issues and you think that’s how things work.
If you install a better os, everything is accurately and centrally managed, making maintenance much more easy. Problem is with closed sourced software and drivers, because they break the normal processes of installation and maintenance, creating similar issues as in windows (not as bad because the os is better engineered)…
"Let me search for a solution
…
…
…
No solution found"
Has the annoying “search for a solution” window ever found a solution?
You forgot whan the upgrade of the drivers and bloatware goes wrong on windows… What a great experience of “simplicity”
The problem is maintaining the os. Installing the drivers on windows is usually fine. Maintaining them is frustrating, because of how updates has to be done, and the dirty uninstall process, and the issues.
On many Linux distro it doesn’t work perfectly, but maintenance is so trivial that people become used to it. And going back to a high maintenance OS is annoying. Like going back from a modern EV to ford model T. Some people like the experience of going back in time to the mid 90s with Windows, other prefer the simplicity of maintaining a Linux OS
If Agile consultant could read they’d be very upset
There no such an impulse, there is a neural network in your brain. These AI stuff were born as a simulation of human neural networks.
And your neural network cannot tell if something is true or untrue, it might remember a phone number as true even if it is not. English has literally a word for that, that you used: misremembed. It is so common…
It is true that LLMs do not know in a human way, they do not understand, they cannot tell if what they say is true. But they do retain facts. Ask who won f1 championship in 2001 to chatgpt. It knows it. I have problem remembering correctly, I need to check. Gpt-4 knows better than me that was there. No shame in that
Information leaking is a thing. Some information is spread across multiple sources without actually being in any of those. If you remove something, the model can still infer the information.
If macron asks for his name to be deleted, you can retrieve his political opinion by simply knowing the history of interactions of other people with the French government. I just need to tell the model that the person he has no direct information about is named macron, and he can profile him.
Same with the search engine. The only difference is that the inference of missing information now is done by human brains. The model can substitute them
It’s the same in your brain though. There is no number in your brain. Just a set of synapses that allows a depolarization wave to propagate across neurons, via neurotransmitters released and absorbed in a narrow space.
The way the brain is built allows you to “remember” stuff, reconstruct information incompletely stored as different, unique connections in a network. But it is not “certain”, we can’t know if it’s the absolute truth. That’s why we need password databases and phone books, because our memory is not a database. It is probably worse than gpt-4
Apparently id software helped with the shooting part. They are the best in town for it, I am not surprised that it’s improved compared to fallout games, that have pretty bad shootings
