0.82 - 1.09% of Dutch showed up to protest genocide thousands of miles away.
If you can’t understand how there’s a difference here, between standing up for yourself and standing up for others, I don’t know what else to say.
Passive seems to describe the American attitude to democracy as well.
That’s an awful lot of excuses for allowing fascism to proliferate.
Democracy isn’t just ticking a box every 4-5 years and being done with it.
If you don’t want to live under autocracy then you need to actually show up and make your voice heard.
37.5% of the US population could make time to watch the Super Bowl but less than 2% could make time to walk through their town/city centre? Shameful.
For an issue that doesn’t effect the Dutch. And yet they still showed up in solidarity, because they have principles, and understand that to live in a democratic country means taking responsibility for its politics and not just voting every 4-5 years.
Americans are being kidnapped, assassinated, and having entire departments shut down, and their turnout isn’t much better than the Dutch outraged at what’s happening another continent away.
I want them to learn that if they want change they need to do something, instead of giving every excuse under the sun as to why they couldn’t show up as has been done in other threads.
This is a good start I guess, but it hasn’t done anything to stop Trump and co yet. They need to pump those numbers up.

If the numbers of 4-6 million are true then less than 2% of Americans showed up. The pictures of big crowds was impressive, but that’s not enough. To the outside world, it looks like you have bowed down.
Take inspiration from this protest in The Netherlands and chastise your neighbours, your colleagues, your friends and family, to march, or this time next year America may just be a fully fledged fascist state with no personal freedom.
It only helps if you’re willing to go onto the street and tell Trump and his fascist buddies the same message.
Because otherwise, they’ll do far worse than a nerd on the internet telling you to think.

Was No Kings truly a one day protest when there’s been anti-Trump protests dotted around for weeks? It’s one part of a larger group of protests.
All of the numbers I took were for one day turnouts. They’re comparable.

Americans still have most of their freedoms, use them before you lose them.
4 years of the alarm ringing, a 4 year snooze, and then 6 months of the alarm ringing again is an awfully long time to take to wake up. All whilst living in the “richest” country in the world, with the freedom to carry guns, and say what you want. That’s… Even more pathetic than I first thought.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed seeing the pictures and videos of thousands, millions, of people marching, but you can do better.

Edit 2: 200k just marched in The Netherlands against genocide. That’s 1.09% of their population marching for an issue that doesn’t even personally affect them, because they have principles. But y’all can’t even get double that for an issue that will personally effect the rest of your lives. Shame.
With a U.S. population of 340.11 million (Wikipedia number) that’s 1.18 - 1.76%. That’s… pretty pathetic considering what was being protested.

Well done, you took to the streets, but not enough of you, not while you’re still free to do so. Get good or suffer the consequences. You’ve seen what’s coming, do something about it. If only 1-2 out of 100 of you can be arsed to say no, then the jackboots will take that as a green light to do what they want. After that, getting more numbers to show up will become increasingly difficult. Now is your chance, seize it while you still can. Don’t just clap yourself on the back, say “well done, we showed them” and go back to your day job as if life is back to normal. Do as the French do, keep protesting until your demands are met.
The English. £9,000 a year isn’t easy when you’re 18, throw on top rent, food, transport, socialising, many people go into debt.
Student loans have more generous terms than ordinary loans, and you only pay them back when earning more than ~£25k (depends on the loan) but that’s still debt.
