These things absolutely have to do with one another because you and I, as consumers, can vote for systems ::gestures around the fediverse:: (like the current one we’re on right now!) that eschew corporate cash-grabs and allow our data to be decentralized. Corporations don’t want that because they literally rely on locking you into their ecosystem. But we all know how ill-fated locked ecosystems end up. ::Gestures at Reddit and Twitter.::
