Making things in Google Docs is fine, but last I checked Google Docs just sucked at opening anything that wasn’t already a GDoc. LibreOffice Writer sometimes has formatting errors opening Word Docs, but it does a miles better job than Google Docs.

Also, I hate how normalized everything using the cloud (aka “Someone Else’s Hard Drive”) for no reason is.

I mean, I use LibreOffice, but for people not that tech savvy it sucks they won’t have a basic rich text tool included with Windows.

I get where this comes from (look up why USA and Canada celebrate Labor Day rather than International Worker’s Day) but it’s just symbolism, a frivolous issue. Pushing frivolous issues reinforces one of the negative perceptions of the American left common among both centrist Americans and international leftists. People want healthcare, vacation days, material improvements. Not a debate over when a national holiday is.

Philadelphia allows bikes on their subway, or at least doesn’t enforce not allowing them. But, they probably wouldn’t if bikes were more normalized here.

I would be running on a social democratic platform with a focus on urbanism, affordable housing and tough-on-landlords policies, de-escalation with China, stopping state governments from being aggressive toward Mexico, and introducing a bodily autonomy amendment to the Constitution, with rhetoric that attempts to take the notion of American pride back from conservatives and warmongerers.

I was one of those people stopped being “anti-SJW” when Unite the Right happened, and later I flirted with anarcho-communist ideas (I’m still in my early 20s, this is more common with American youth than you’d think.) The former would turn off my social democratic base, the latter would discourage centrist voters. Also my views on race don’t align perfectly with the American progressive orthodoxy (it has a lot to do with being mixed race, though I don’t think my views are popular with mixed people either.) And I crossdress (might boost me with socdems but halt momentum with undecideds and old people.)

I feel like a lot of internet people (not even just socialists) go from seeing copyright as at best a compromise that allows the arts to have value under capitalism to treating it like a holy doctrine when the subject of LLMs comes up.

Like, people who will say “piracy is always okay” will also say “ban AI, period” (and misrepresent organizations that want regulations on it’s use as wanting a full ban.)

Like, growing up with an internet full of technically illegal content (or grey area at best) like fangames and YouTube Poops made me a lifelong copyright skeptic. It’s outright confusing to me when people take copyright as seriously as this.
