I did the same and would absolutely recommend this.
Don’t look for news on social media (best to not be on social media if that’s possible). Get news and content via RSS and get an app that allows you to blacklist keywords.

“I want to decide if I like what you have to say before I want to know who you are”. Good strategy. If he starts quoting Andrew Tate then I can say “no thanks” and bounce.
Steam Deck + Retroid Pocket 4 Pro for me. The RP4 is a recent addition and it blows my kind how capable this cheap tiny thing is.
I would keep the castle, but turn off the heating in all but 3 insulated rooms and live in the area I needed. Might even open up the rest of it for tourists.
Best to be safe and hate everything to have maximum compatibility with potential partners.
True. And I do see the point some make in saying they want to show demand for Linux native apps and don’t want to show demand for Windows apps (via comparability layer or VM). I think there is an option to filter Linux native games in the Steam app if I’m not mistaken.
Why would you want to turn it off?
I don’t give a shit about waterproofing. I want more battery, repairability and a headphone socket.
But that’s not what normies want. So fuck me.
Put OP on monitoring CCTV.
Only my family, friends and work. But I’m working on cutting them out of my life.
There was a big uproar amongst normies when the WhatsApp TOS changed…but people forget quickly and prefer convenience. That was our one chance to convert everyone over.
I’m forced to use WhatsApp chat so I keep it installed begrudgingly. But who the fuck is using WhatsApp stories?
Use the poor man’s replacement plastic tub.
But the point isn’t to see everything. The feeling of FOMO is what’s seems to drive people to madness. For a game that’s been developed for over a decade with multiple cycles of content release every year; I’m not surprised that people don’t get a chance to see everything. I see that as a positive and not a negative.
Other games do similar things. I play a lot of Dead Cells and can’t get beyond 4BC. Most people will never get to end game content to see all bosses or unlock all items. Who cares. As long as the game is fun.
My first play through of PoE was with no guides. I made it up as I went along. Had a terrible “build”. I enjoyed taking weeks to get through the campaign slowly and reading all the lore. Every league I played, I got deeper and deeper into the content…learning to make tons of currency, getting a character to lvl 100, etc. It has been great playing it off and on. The game is fun without experiencing “everything”. But if I ever engaged with the online community, all I would hear is “I’ve played 3000 hours and this game is shit”.
Path of Exile
Good fun game, but online communities are committing to min/max the fun out out of it. I like blowing up monsters, I don’t care about optimising my chaos-per-hour rate.
Searching/surfing YouTube is like searching/surfing Imgur. It’s a site for content hosting so you can link from other places. You have to go to online communities to find links to good videos.
There are good channels that are worth subscribing to, but going to YouTube directly is like trudging though a swamp.
Shit dude, that sounds terrible with people giving you attitude for mobility aids.
I haven’t tried clubs (book club, warhammer, etc) and haven’t tried hobby classes.
I’ve had postgraduate formal classes, but that had mature students who had young families that they were keen to get back to (rather than hanging out).
I’m at a similar age and have similar interests. I’ve not been successful. I’ve done what others suggest, but not many people are making a genuine connection. Meetup.com ends up being an activity for the meet up and not connection outside. Conventions and gaming makes people get together for the event…but again little interest outside that.
Some of this might be a skill issue. Some of this has to do with how incredibly socially reserved the British are (all my ongoing friendships are with non-British people while living in England, because they’re the ones who will accept invites and meet up again). Some of this has to do with having interests that hardly anyone shares IRL.
I’ve seen posts like this before on Lemmy and people even said they were interested in a chat channel to start a social group here, so I made one and no one joined.
Good luck. I’m interested in reading the other replies you get.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
What device are you going to use it on? I’ll presume Android is most likely.
Best app for FOSS in my opinion is Read You (on f-droid), but this doesnt allow blacklisting words.
Best for easy setup + setting up filters is Pluma (free on Play store). Once you’re in it, you press + to add content and can search for whatever you want.
Most sites support RSS and if you candidate find it from within the app then you can go get the RSS link from the webpage… But if you’re just getting into it then try what I’ve suggested above first and take it from there.
