  • You need to remember first of all what sites like reddit, digg, and now Lemmy actually are. They are link aggregators. The content is anything and every thing. Just link to it. It’s that simple. And if you feel it is in a place that might get removed, screenshot it, archive.org it, copy into an online Google Doc, and post that. There’s no reason we need 500 identical “How do I do X?” posts just to fill content. Do you want 500 posts clogging your feed about how to fix the same printer issue over and over?

  • Maybe stop with the strawman argument and you’d get a bit further. Myself, and I’m sure plenty of others, are really sick of being painted as a villain before even entering the conversation. All you’re doing is furthering the divide, not shortening it.

I see it all over Lemmy - angry liberals painting the opposition as vile and inhuman. Making all these strawman up. Makes other liberals not want to associate with you. Makes you seem just like the people you vilify.

You want a society of love and acceptance? Start with yourself. Create a happy accepting vibe around yourself and make it grow from there. But don’t salt the ground and then wonder why nothing grows.

Edit: hey geniuses downvotting me and calling me conservative scum: I’m a registered Democrat. Thanks for proving my point with more strawmen. You assume that if someone disagrees with you they’re immediately a MAGA Nazi instead of someone who legitimately disagrees with your methods and actions. You taint the discourse just as much as your opposition.

  • The sediment that gets pushed out into the surrounding water. That gets pulled up with the ball as it creates negative pressure behind it as it rises.

Bro, the ocean is FILTHY. Like, crazy filled with stuff. Like, you could take a coffee filter and pull stuff out filthy. Like the water has so many living organisms in itself it’s basically alive.

And let’s talk about the salt. Corrosive af salt.

This isn’t impossible, but the people trying to point out why this is CRAZY difficult are right. This will not be a set it and forget it scenario by far. It will need regular maintenance. The issue is whether that maintenance is easier or harder than a dam or stationary tank.

Like, why can’t we build these in giant freshwater reservoirs? Stick them a pool. Or why does it need to float? Wouldn’t a tank at the bottom of a pool with a pump do the same thing? Or two tanks at different heights with a conection between them and a pump? This is just mechanical energy being stored for later. Do the work when it’s cheap and reclaim it later.

In a situation like this it’s better to discourage the behaviour entirely than to play a game of ever increasing barricades. Training the cat to not get into things it shouldn’t is much more worthwhile than having to baby proof each individual thing.
