It is crazy how pervasive this story has become in certain genres! It’s referenced everywhere, Lovecraft being the big one but also True Detective, various FromSoft games, the SCP universe, etc. Super good stuff
I felt the same way! It’s my favorite of the trilogy!
I really enjoy Starship Troopers and I just recently borrowed The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress from my local library so I’m excited to read that
I made it all the way to “The Sword of the Lictor” last year but got sidelined when Wind and Truth came out so I have restarted. Talk about atmospheric/vibes, this series is prettt unique in my experience.
Lmao that last one isnt as less-threatening as you would think it would be, still pretty spooky
This person opilionates 👌
Yep! “Daddy long legs” is a widely applied colloquial term for harvestman, or opiliones. Though I’m sure some spider species are also called that by some people.
Oh damn, I didnt know that. Thanks!
🐰 👕 🕷️ edit: ah it looked better vertically
I believe that that’s a harvestman actually. It is an arachnid but not a spider. They are suuuper ancient. The giveaway is that there isnt a visually distinguishable division between the prosoma (head region) and opisthosoma (back region) as there is in the spiders and other arachnids like the solifuges.
Excellent pic and excellent username. The tooooth!
My knowledge on the subject is purely at a youtube video level so i am happy to have someone else provide better knowledge and insight
Yeah exactly lol science is full of silly stuff like that but that’s the price of knowledge and of using models to understand things. Same with trees and such, they look alike to us so we call a lot of organisms trees but they are VASTLY different from each other in many cases
In a nutshell: speaking cladistically, there is no such thing as a fish, or alternatively, all tetrapods are fish. You cant define a monophyletic group that includes “fish” that doesnt also include humans (and all other tetrapods eg birds and such). That’s my understanding anyway

I just started Dune Messiah. I’ve read Dune countless times but this is the first time I’ve decided to keep going in the series.
I have also started the Void trilogy by Peter F. Hamilton. It can go either way with Hamilton so we shall see.
