Yeah, they’re all pretty close to the border no matter what. I was honestly just throwing that in because I was saying that they seemed like they were different generations personality-wise (my aunt also married at 20 a man a decade older than she was, so that plays a role) and I figured someone was going to reply that they technically were from different generations.
1946-64 are boomers, my aunt is silent generation at 1945, though she’s definitely on the cusp.
Hey, you do you! I can enjoy a little Elvis now, too, but I had a hard time with anything pre British Invasion as a kid
I don’t really understand song lyrics (rap’s generally easier to understand, but not Eminem, lol), so that’s the first time I realized how it goes and I strongly identify with this.
My parents were both born in 1950, and one of my aunts was born five years earlier. I know those are literally two different generations, but also figuratively. My parents’ favorite musicians were Eric Clapton and Donovan, and my aunt’s was Elvis, the latter of which seemed unbearably old fashioned to me as a kid (and I was born about 30 years after Clapton and Donovan became relevant, but they were still at least enjoyable to listen to even when I was very young).
Because they misidentified something that’s basically the same? Okay…
Anyway, the OP’s username is @colderr@lemmy.world. Easy mistake to make, I’m sure.
Honestly, good for you for realizing young. I was around 20 when a coworker got annoyed about a company that sends a pair of shoes to people in need for every pair purchased and a lightbulb went off in my head.
“I want to” doesn’t incite someone to do the same and @world might be more censor-happy, but they’re still not reddit.
One is a genius and the other’s insane
I think the confusion lies around the word “terminal.” Starlink sent internet service terminals to swing states in the US with questionable internet, not voting terminals. As far as I can see, they don’t make voting machines (though that would be terrifying and is probably up next). I wasn’t able to see whether the Canadian government relied on them for internet service surrounding the election.
The white man’s burden is also used referentially to call out people who do things like travel to poor countries to build houses even though they have far less building experience than locals and the money they paid to get there would have gone much further, had it simply been donated in the form of building materials.
I don’t know how RFK Jr. is using it, but it almost certainly makes no sense.
Edit: oh, voluntourism! I knew there was a term for it
Yeah, it’s very possible that I just hit bad luck with the banks and the dealership lied, or maybe it’s location dependent 🤷
I think it was a three speed automatic, lol. It felt like it weighed about 250 kg, but it was actually pretty manageable in the snow because it was so easy to get back in control once you’d lost it.
I once bought a 1990 Nissan Sentra for $700 in 2013, then sold it ten months later for $700. I had to pay for gasoline and oil, but that’s it. It was a totally functional car, it was just absolutely tiny and didn’t have airbags, so I didn’t really want to keep driving it.
The last time I was looking (~6 years ago), banks were unwilling to offer and very judgmental about my request for a loan on a used car. They said loans were for new cars and the bank isn’t a replacement for a little financial know-how. I only went to two banks and one credit union, because I got tired of being condescended to, but the dealership said that they hadn’t heard of used car loans from a bank before (could be a lie).
And he no longer owned the company afterward, so it’s kind of like losing his job. Or just spectacularly quitting.
That’s why I was initially surprised, but the og method involved high heat to break down the woodiness of the fibers, and that leads to methanol, not ethanol. You do need sugars for either though, afaik, because the yeast has to eat something either way.
Wait, you can’t make ethanol from wood? I guess that would make sense, because otherwise you’d see a lot more wood liqueurs, I’ve only ever heard of alcohol made from maple syrup, birch, and pine (but that last one was from a rural Austrian town and they aren’t allowed to sell it elsewhere, so it might be a little more poisonous than the others). This is going to be a rabbit hole.
Edit: you can, but it’s not the traditional way of turning wood into alcohol, and an efficient method has only recently been developed.
If you get a bunch of adults who agree to participate in a high school attractiveness contest, don’t leave them alone with high schoolers.
