90% of the people who were laid off in December had a new job by February. That timeframe has been consistent across the board.
There is still a huge talent gap and there are still a huge amount of high paying jobs available for folks in software. You may have more trouble getting into the largest orgs, but aim a bit smaller and you can find work pretty quickly.

My PITI for my mortgage is $3350/month. Mortgage is $28xx something. It’ll be nice whenever I can get that mortgage insurance off. I was renting an admittedly very nice 2 bed 2 bath apartment for the same before I bought. Now I have a 3x2 1000sqft rambler and know that, while the mortgage is high, it will be lower than rent in the next 5 years.
That’s p interesting and something I could see myself doing.
How’s the revenue steam for you?
The big one is that it introduces ads while Lemmy is an ad-free platform, and the option to pay to remove ads isn’t regionalized, so for some people it’s wildly expensive to buy. There’s also some question about some of the permissions.
Just because it’s marketed as a meat thermometer doesn’t mean it doesn’t have other excellent uses. I use mine for everything from meat to making sure my tap water is the exact right temp for aquarium water changes.

I was the most senior person in the customer success team, I was the one that built out the majority of the materials used for training and resourcing other departments, I was relied on to lead the team even though I wasn’t a manager, and in my third year with the org they gave everyone on the team a raise except me. Said I was above the new pay band for the role and that I wouldn’t get any more raises unless I got a new role. I’d been asking for a new role and promotion to be in line with my duties for over a year and had been passed up for 4 promotions to other people who all had an uncanny similarity in their demeanor, the way they did their hair, and how they dressed.
I was gone something like four weeks later for a much better job, which I was then head hinted away from 9 months later and am now in the best job I’ve ever had.
It’s funny how my mom has no issue at all with everything they load her up with for her cancer, but vaccines? That’s a bridge too far.

But I got lucky with a really chill cat. Like, ‘doesn’t mind having his claws trimmed’ chill.
I prefer open, but I got a cat a few months ago that won’t leave me alone if I leave it open. So, closed.
I bought a house that’s further away from where my office was than I’d have ever considered buying if not for the permanent wfh change made during the pandemic.
I’m now a minimum of an hour away from where most jobs would be in-person, and that’s not something I’m ever willing to do again.
Because being Chinese doesn’t mean you are a Chinese nationalist. It’s a pretty racist jump to make.

Has to do with the fact that several burners have multiple sizes that can be used. My stove is the same way, and there’s really not a much better way to do it imo, short of a touch screen, which I don’t want on a stove.
If manufacturers are to be believed, the only thing that our devices are always listening for is the trigger word. iPhones have a dedicated piece of hardware or circuit or smth that listens only for ‘hey siri’ and it doesn’t start keeping record until it’s heard that. After which it sends what you say to the cloud to understand what you said.
Well, no need to change it up if you love it! I’m a roasted veggies person myself, but I don’t begrudge anyone their preferences.
Do you have an air fryer? It roasts veggies really well too, and fast.
