I think they’ve finally heard the appeal for functionality before idealist principles. Debian, since version 12, are following the trend of abandoning the purist approach of only offering FOSS at install. They now detect and offer to install proprietary drivers at install.

I read a theory about why Ukraine has not completely destroyed the bridge to Crimea, even if they were able to, was to leave a way out & not fight the occupying troops into a corner, at which point their destructive unpredictability is worse than just letting them leave . This could be similar

Heads up…only after checking their documentation that this does not interfere with Proton’s own DNS. I use a different VPN provider and they specifically advise not to use a ‘custom DNS’ in conjunction with their own as it is not supported with their own end-to-end solution.
