  • I actually went back to Reddit. Even as a left-wing follower, I couldn’t take the heavy bias of the community. The echo chamber is just too loud. They are convinced communism is flawless, and whenever it becomes flawed, it is the right’s fault. I can’t deal with absolutes, I’d rather be dead than radicalized by an ideology.

For some reason Lemmy won’t let me remove my account so I just login once a day to see if it is already gone.

  • Ah ok, as I said, “everything that is left wing is good and paradise. Everything right wing is pure evil”.

In a left-wing state the state always holds the power… So once that state becomes corrupted and uses that power to keep all workers equally poor, then it is suddenly right wing? Show me what were the capitalist principles in the Soviet Union? Was there a free market, private incentive, private property, competition, minimal state intervention, entrepreneurship, individual rights and freedoms? NOOO THERE WEREN’T. It wasn’t a right-wing state.

You guys are insane. Lemmy became an echo chamber for your delusions. It’s really sad to see people this radicalized.

A dictator is a dictator, who the fuck cares if they are right or left wing? A racist is a racist. A murderer is a murderer. They can be found in any side of the political spectrum, but you’re too biased to believe the left can be corrupted… You are too blinded by what is right and what is left and are totally unable to see there can be combinations of ideologies.

You say dictators are right wing because they don’t follow some left-wing principles? Then I could argue that all dictators are left-wing because by definition the right strives to minimize government controls, and a dictatorship is authoritarian, which goes against right-wing policies… But I’m done arguing. This is my last Lemmy comment. You are so blinded by the left vs right argument you can’t see beyond that. This degree of fanatism can’t be healthy, I don’t want to become radicalized like you people. This self imposed blindness is sad and pathetic. Good bye.

  • I do believe heads need to roll at this point, but not specifically Spez. Like what he’s doing is minimal and not deserving of death or incitement of violence against him.

The same people who drew that probably use Reddit every day. If you really want to make a point don’t do shit like that, just stop using Reddit.

Look at the masses of Germans coordinated to say “fuck Spez”… What percentage of them do you think still use Reddit?

  • It is. Just like fascism, these are terms associated with the right-wing. But that’s not my point… My point is that whatever affiliation the right or left had in the past does not necessarily represent the current affiliations. The fact that the US right-wing is turning to white supremacy is unrelated to Nazis being right wing. That is just a reflection of their systemic racism.

What I’m saying is that it is irrelevant if Republicans are trying to associate the left with Nazis, because even if such association existed, it is not a valid argument to say that the left today is ruled by Nazis, or that the right can’t behave like Nazis. That’s just a fallacy, the same fallacy that they use to point out that voting left will turn us into North Korea or an authoritarian left-wing dictatorship.

I can’t believe people aren’t getting this. It’s like they don’t understand I’m actually pro-left with this argument, somehow they think I’m protecting Nazis and Republicans because I’m not shouting “REPUBLICANS BAD!”

Going back and pointing out how Nazis were right-wing is something that will bite the left in the ass because there are plenty of examples of the left turning into shit too. So instead of comparing with past examples, just analyze their current positions. Is the right currently behaving like Nazis? Yes. Do you need WWII Nazis to be right wing for this to be a fact? No. So even if they convince people that Nazis were left wing, how does that disprove that RIGHT NOW they are the racists and white supremacists?

I’m just saying, don’t play their games.

Come on, Javascript is pretty nasty. Trying to read that shit always gives me brain tumors. Why do they need to wrap every fucking thing in a function inside a function inside a function that is passed as a parameter to a function inside another function?

Like, bro, you know people are meant to understand what you just wrote?

It just gives too much freedom and people forget they need to write code that is easy to read for people who aren’t totally familiar with the code base.

They even bring that shit into typescript. Like they are already using a language that is meant to fix that shit and they are like, nope, let me create 5 nested functions just because.

I think that just because capitalism can go wrong it doesn’t mean that capitalism is a failure. Sure, right now we’re living in a pretty dystopian capitalism, but this can happen to any system, no system is invulnerable to exploitation. This is just the same argument the far-right uses to say socialism and communism are failure because “look at North Korea, Venezuela, Cuba and the Soviet Union”.

Unfortunately, they figured out how to exploit capitalism by buying politicians. This is bad because they get to do whatever the fuck they want with no consequences, but it doesn’t mean that wealth accumulation is bad.

Imagine a company that didn’t exploit workers, didn’t buy politicians, cared about the environment and payed fair taxes. These companies do exist. They exist under capitalism. The same way you imagine a government that takes care of everyone, gives free education, free healthcare, takes care of workers… I could imagine a government that has too much power, destroys private companies and ignores the needs of the working class, as it has happened under socialism/communism.

It isn’t a matter of abolishing the systems we have but finding a balance between them. Plus, politicians should be subjected to extremely harsh audits to make sure they aren’t corrupt. Lobbying shouldn’t be legal, that’s insane, but it isn’t an inherente part of capitalism.

Idk, I think capitalism isn’t evil, humans are. Any system can go south with us.

  • Your scenario isn’t against my point, public and private sectors should compete. It just sounds like there’s a lack of competition in your area, which is something that the government should fix, not private companies. So you want to give more power to an entity that can’t even fix a competition issue in the market? This is literally the responsibility of the government. As far as I know, Canada isn’t like the US, private companies don’t own the government, so what’s happening there?

I’m just saying, wealth accumulation isn’t necessarily an evil thing. As I showed, it can also be positive. It’s just a matter of balance. I’m much more inclined to the left than the right, but I don’t see everything that happens in the right as evil.

Reminds me of my city, when the internet provider was a government company. The internet was down 30% of the day, latency of 1s, nobody answered the support lines, whole portions of the city could be out for days… It was extremely expensive and the speeds were so low I remember it could take 2h to download a 5m song.

Then private companies (with wealth accumulation) were allowed to provide internet for users. Everyone started jumping on the private networks as soon as their area had coverage. It was like 1/3 of the cost of the public company and like 20 times the speed. Latencies were like 100ms.

The public company saw its reign over people crumbling and did something INSANE, totally unexpected. They actually became competitive and started giving a good service.

That’s a lesson for y’all. If there’s no wealth large enough to compete against the state, the state becomes an inefficient monopoly.

  • Actual question. Isn’t installing stuff from third party repos like super dangerous? The package scripts run with root access, right?

So, I guess you could tell if the hash of the package matches the hash of the code after you build it… But, what about upgrades on that package after it is installed? They could change the setup scripts and screw a lot of people right?

Not saying these guys do it, just wondering about security stuff.
