  • I live in Canada, I can vote using my free government issued healthcard or I can bring a friend to vouch for me, or i can bring a student id and a bill. While most people probably vote with their drivers license or photo ID this enables people who are homeless, very old, or in my case in 2021, just moved. (Here’s what’s needed for the curious). You’ll notice in that link there are special exemptions for people who live in long term care homes, for whom it is much more common to have no form of id.

People who don’t have easy access to id are societies most vulnerable people and I think it is especially important that they have access to voting.

America does not have a free form of id (in most states anyway) and does not allow someone to vouch as a form of identification.

  • I think some spreaders of misinformation are victims and not intentional bad actors. Banning them from legitimate communities only pushes them further from reality which is bad for our society. Telling the difference between useful idiots and bad actors is hard, so i think the general policy should be a warning and a ban until election day, and having the mods reserve the right to be harsher for clear bad actors.

    1. No self posts.

I strongly think this rule should change, it is important we are able to humanize each other, make our own arguments. Self posts are important way to do that. I think some guidelines to keep it constructive and high effort is warranted but an outright ban I’m against.

    1. No meme/image/shitposting.

I’m fine with this, but maybe a weekly mega thread to blow off steam in would be healthy?

No calls for violence. Full stop.

I understand the legal obligations here. I’ll also point out the president elect is openly calling for widespread violence. If some can say “cops should shoot/arrest/deport <xyz>” that is a call for violence.

Mods, You have a hard, thankless job, so thank you.

  • I have many different saving buckets. As far as I’m concerned every expense is coming from “savings” it’s just a matter of how often those expenses come up.

Some examples from small to large:

    • I pay most subscriptions yearly because it’s cheaper, but I “charge” myself the amortized rate every month.
    • I put X/mo into tech, some months I might buy 2 or 3 cheap tech things (phone case, cables) whereas other months it just all gets saved for something big like a PC upgrade.
    • I keep a few grand as an emergency fund, I save X/mo until I have Y, then just leave it unless I dip into it.
    • I have a repair budget, I save X amount every month, if It ever reaches X*20, I split it in half and keep half as repair budget and put the other half towards a big renovation/upgrade.
    • I have a mortgage budget. I am fortunate enough to afford more than my minimum payment. Until my mortgage comes up for renewal It is more efficient for me to invest that cash and then dump it in when the renewal comes up. Assuming interest rates don’t go too much higher than now I think I can keep my upcoming minimum to be the same as my current minimum + my current mortgage savings.
    • I have RRSP and TFSA

IDK maybe it varies by area and what you a re looking for but almost all my furniture is thrifted/scavenged and I think the most I paid for a single thing was a 100 bucks. I go to a local thift store not one of the big chains. I also don’t have to buy with any sort of time pressure.

E: the idea that it invalidates IKEAs existence is crazy though.
