  • Don’t worry about this at all, this is actually a great opportunity.

You have a full year where you are a very competitive intern/research applicant because most of your schooling is behind you.

Not only that, but you can probably take an internship in the spring or fall semester when everyone else is in school. You can get some really primo internships. University of Waterloo is a school you probably never heard of but you find their students in all the big tech companies in the spring and fall because the school pushes them to take a semester off(I think). It’s a great strategy.

  • Very well said. Everything good in life, will have some aspects that you (the global ‘you’) won’t like.

Lemmy is a huge improvement over corporate social media. Maybe it has some ideologies you don’t like here, but it beats an algorithm that secretly manipulates you.

If I use a FOSS product, then I try to pay for it, even if it’s not perfect. For example, Firefox gets a lot of well deserved hate but without it I’m not sure there would be a realistic FOSS browser.

  • You should be able to see all the reports against you here: https://lemmy.world/modlog?page=1&actionType=All&userId=13046809

I observe two things about your comment.

    1. You have an unpopular opinion of JK Rowling. I want to build a welcoming community so I want to support people with unpopular opinions, like yours.
    2. The comment is written in a way that not only states your opinion but is aggressive towards the other users. In isolation this comment isn’t too bad but in the context of your other comments there is a trend of agression that stirs up more aggression. I want to build a welcoming community so I want to avoid aggression towards users.

These two points are at odds. I originally removed your comment, you didn’t like that, you sent me a DM, so I tried this approach.

If you were in my shoes, how would you resolve the conflict created by observations 1 & 2?

  • Mod here. This thread devolved and reports were flying around so now it’s gone.

It was kicked off with the above comment. rainrain asked a question. If we assume the best intentions, it is a reasonable question but it could be interpreted as being hostile.

Leraje did a good job answering the question in a kind way.

In general, please approach opposing ideas with curiosity not hostility. We are all on the same team, we are all working together to build a better internet.
