Why not celebrate at any age?

The only difference is that, as you grow older, you do different things that make you happy. Different things can become special occasions. This may or may not include a cake.

Most of the times, for a person in their 30s, a special occasion is finally getting some peace and quiet from everything. Maybe even treating themselves a little with something expensive.

It’s a little too cynical to say that “you don’t celebrate your birthdays as an adult” IMHO.

There is a line between treating a company like a company vs complete cancellation. Let’s not cross that line.

We can all agree that they should be held to scrutiny, get absolutely clowned on and ripped apart. But I don’t think they deserve immediate cancellation. Give them time, let them cook, they are a company and they did everything a company should do so far (even if it took some pushing).

You don’t have to forgive them for anything either and that’s fine, companies after they cross a certain size rarely, if ever, deserve the benefit of the doubt. That’s why you go and hurt their bottom line first (and that is money). Cancellation should be the last option.

Exactly. That’s what matters. That’s why SteamOS is on Steam Deck, or Linux distros on POS machines, or Windows on ATMs (which is kinda depressing ngl), etc.

It’s a tool, nothing more, nothing less. An OS is just a gateway to other apps at the end of the day.

That’s ok if you look at it that way. But at the end of the day, it’s just a tool like any other. Personally I find it really silly to put any moral questions into it because I don’t believe it’s worth my time to think about it, lose time on silly things and/or sacrifice the quality of my work. I’m not trying to imply anything about Linux, btw, it’s the same for the other ways around. It just feels stupid because it ends up like a political discussion, when it really shouldn’t be. You have the option to use basically anything and choosing to limit yourself over that is just plain stupid imo. You could make the arguments for how they process data, which is a whole other discussion, but then again, there are plenty of workarounds to all of those problems (which is exactly what some people are doing with virtualization, different machines entirely, OS tweaks, etc., which is fine, because they’re benefiting from it). Nothing against FOSS or otherwise, btw, I do agree about the need to support, but there are so many other ways to do it. Just using it isn’t enough, sadly. As the point of this OP is - it’s also market adoption, marketing itself, etc. None of this changes the fact that using certain tool(s) (e.g. gdb) is best done on a certain OS (e.g. a Linux distro) at a given time.

On the same token - anyone who also knows what an OS is shouldn’t care either. Use the best OS for your job and needs. Reap the benefits of all of the OSs that you can run and switch between them like an army knife. It is the best when all of them complement each other.

Nobody is arguing what their rights are. If someone is, then they indeed don’t understand what makes a company.

People criticize companies usually for things that go against the basic human values (ethics, morals, etc.) and by doing so, they’re being kept in check. And this is exactly what is happening to LMG.

As for those emotional extremists who want LMG cancelled over this because it went against their beliefs of what they are - yeah I see where you’re coming from. Those people really should calm down.

LMG is a corporation and as Steve put it, they should be held to scrutiny just like any other. That doesn’t necessarily include immediate cancellation, though.

Counter point - just because they said “they’re in it for the money”, it doesn’t make it right. If anything, it makes it worse because they’re putting out a bad product.

Criticism comes from the circumstances that LMG found themselves in. Most people aren’t surprised, just disappointed.

Some people don’t understand that nowadays it is accepted that it is up to the recipient to determine what is offensive to them and what’s not. No matter what the intention is.

Sure, you can try to explain your intention to smooth things out, but don’t use that as an excuse to repeat the offense in case it doesn’t work out. Sometimes, it just doesn’t, and that’s fine.

Yep, she even said as much in here. People kept asking her about this and only now she gets the attentions that she deserves. It absolutely sucks.

It’s best not to assume the worst of people right away, especially those that you do not know personally. This happens too often on the internet and by extension, in real life. It can be hard to do that, I know, but the more people that do it, the better it is for everyone.

She picked the right moment to come out with this. I mean, keeping this in for 2 whole years while being under the impression that you’re under some NDA, you can only imagine how stressful she must’ve felt.

I feel really sorry for her and I wish her the best. She’s a really cool person.

Yep it’s a Safari (and its webview) bug. This is a quirk that will haunt this app and I don’t think there’s much that can be done from developer’s side other than porting this app to a native library.

I was hoping the “scroll freeze after swipe back” bug would’ve been fixed by this…

The difference this time is that Empress was angy wangy and had to cry.

In reality it was indeed a few bad releases of a popular game on a popular site… 1337x constantly had these. Just like Pirate Bay had them. I never go there expecting safety in the first place.

I mean, you can do it, like right now. It totally still works! Heck, there’s even Linux builds for 227 (Unreal) and 469 (UT) and Mac (469 only). It’s a bit rudimentary but it does the job.

Fun fact - some games also have integrated IRC clients!

Unreal Tournament 99 (and now Unreal 227) is one of them. Don’t seriously use it lol, it’s just funny how the internet worked back then to have that included in a game.
