Race is relevant because it’s the point of the joke (he’s racist, but his racism is foiled). Gender isn’t relevant. The picture is what makes this dude a lunatic. If I saw this shit and I worked with him I’d forward it to HR with the note “hey just file this one away, you don’t need to act on it right now but you’re definitely gonna want this receipt sooner or later”.
Huh, idgi. I looked it up and all I saw was him getting fucked by 12 of his peers.
This argument did not go well
You can’t convince people to do their job with logic when they just don’t want to do their job. After minorities, the thing cops hate most is doing their job.
Posts tend to generate a lot of comments by:
being funny, spurring people to try to be funnier (usually failing); or,
by being interactive, spurring people to answer a prompt in the premise of the post; or,
by being controversial, spurring people to argue.
This isn’t particularly funny or interactive. And it’s not very controversial either; I think most programmers will agree with this premise.
Most people, conservative or not, could post this image and garner basically no pushback on it whatsoever. Who wants to be the person who’s like “hey pedophiles don’t deserve that.” Like, even if you thought the message was grossly violent, you would scroll past so you don’t have to engage in this dumb bullshit.
Not Ted Nugent, though. One of the few people who can post “I hate pedophiles” and get himself buried.
Yep, that’s the take. Or you aggregate logs and search them through a search interface. Or you output structured logs, and use structured search.
Claims to be LGBT friendly while taking a strict anti-bussy stance? idk
I agree that people need to be more respectful to each other, and I agree that this game probably needs some time to settle before people start screaming good or bad.
But that title? Makes no sense. Do you think Larian was like “Oh no, nobody’s arguing about whether Baldur’s Gate 3 is good or bad. This is terrible news!” Nah. Being a good game is good.
Did you know he has the most federal indictments of any actor from Home Alone 2: Lost in New York?
Putting more than 2 log levels (and, most of the time, putting more than 1 log level) into the logs your service outputs is a waste of time and just promises to make things confusing for the operator trying to make sense of what’s happening. Just give people all the output and let them filter it however they want.
The only exception I’d make is maybe “trace” level where you spit out everything that happens, good or bad, which is just there for you (the programmer) to make sense of bugs.
I didn’t fact check.
That’s ok, neither did the CEO of Oceangate.
Discovering this was one of the most unsettling things about that game. I find gas giants fantastically scary for reasons I can’t entirely put into words, and the idea of getting lost flying around one was sketchy. Didn’t keep me from completely ringing a couple with collectors, though. :-)
Honestly he halfway has a point. It wouldn’t be very interesting, but there’s no technical reason you couldn’t go near the cloud layer of a gas giant, at least in game fiction terms.
You can (sorta) explore gas giants in Dyson Sphere Program, for example.

This comment fits the spirit of the question better than anything else in here, I will say that.
Log levels are superstition.
That doesn’t make the opinion unpopular. There are a lot more people who hate this shit than there are people making the videos. The vast majority of people, I’d say, which makes this an extremely popular opinion.
I’d say 80% of this is traceable to having a comfortable amount of money his entire life and decent, non-abusive parents. A lot of anxiety and mental illness most people experience is traceable to trauma due to scarcity or trauma due to family. Ditto sleep disorders and reactability.
It doesn’t explain everything, of course. No allergies is just a lucky die roll (and may not be true forever; allergies sometimes develop over time, or appear because you finally tried something new). And plenty of mental illnesses can still develop no matter who you are.
