Based on our last discussion about the future branding of the app, we’ve reached the pivotal moment of choosing its new name. Thank you all for the great ideas and feedback. Here’s a vote on the shortlisted top 10 suggestions!

Here’s how the voting will work:

        Yes, that makes sense. For example, “Infinity for Reddit” appears as just “Infinity” when you install the app. So “Eternity” could work similarly.

        I am very much in favor of this version instead of the long one! The information which network the app is for doesn’t need to be communicated in the appname. That info is obvious from supplied app description, screenshots and context. Rather keep the name short and sweet!

          Reddit apps didn’t used to have names like that either, it was some policy change on Reddit’s end that made Reddit Is Fun change to “RIF is Fun for Reddit” and Slide to “Slide for Reddit” etc.

      Eternity is close to my suggestion! :D
      Its also simple and close to “Infinity”, i vote for this suggestion

      The next bigger step after infinity. The name also suggests that this app is the phoenix that survives forever, while the predecessor Infinity had to shut down. I like it

        Well that is not our problem. We can continue without them, that’s the idea behind free software. The software and name belong to everyone

          Neither is it “your problem” if you steal apples from an old lady who grows them in her garden and sells them for dirt cheap in front of her house. Yet it is disrespectful and sort of inhumane (though the latter doesn’t totally carry over to an appname).

          Just because you can doesn’t mean you should, and if you wanted to run the new project under the exact same name, you should at least get a green light of the original dev, the person who had the idea. Respecting intellectual property (not sure if the legal term applies here) is always good behaviour.

      I don’t like this because it’s too long and gets cropped on my home screen. I see “Infinity for Le…”.

      I vote for this one because I got here looking for “Infinity” as a keyword.

      And many coming from the Docile-Alligator original app will do the same.

      So having Infinity as prefix will help users find their way to this app assuming that this is the old infinity adapted for Lemmy.

      Now if the plan for this app is to mutate into something really different, then I think removing infinity would make more sense.

      But if the intention is to keep the app origins. I think Infinity must be there.

      Icon is also perfect.

      Aleph always remind me of Alf. And just because he is back in pog form does not mean we should name an app after him.

      One of the only names that show the connection to Infinity while being short enough. To me all the X for Lemmy are instantly disqualified because they’re too long. If there was an other pick for “Eternity” I would vote for that.

      Please don’t pick Lemmfinity. It’s just so weird to use a portmonteau of two different things for a name. No other great apps have this in their name.

        Also, way too many apps / alternative UIs for Lemmy have these ridiculous names that are all jumbles of the letters or puns on the word. I can’t even tell them apart anymore.

        Lemma, Lemminator, Lemming, Lemmios, Lemmotif, Lemmynade, Lemoa, Lemonade, Leomard, Memmy, Mlem, Mlmym.

      I like this the best, because it’s unique and straightforward.

      When the app (hopefully) has millions of users, it would allow for easy searches. Most of the other names have very general terms that would give you worse search results.

      While I really like this one, and is my preferred name for the app, it sounds like it precludes the usage of kbin with the app.

    Infinity for Lemmy is pretty good. Carries the brand name and it’s a good contrast to the reddit app
