The cost of the 100 year domain name registration is $38,000 USD.

“Whether it’s giving a newborn the special gift of a domain and lifetime home on the web […] I hope this plan gets people and other companies thinking about building for the long term.”

This is insanely expensive for a newborn. Invest that in their college fund!

That’s a whole retirement fund. Invest $38k when the kid is born, assuming an average of an 10% return (from the S&P 500), not adding another dime to the account, leaves them when $18.6m when they’re 65. They’d be a millionaire by 35.

      In 100 years it’s $523m.

That’s one expensive domain when looking at the opportunity cost.

I totally agree. It doesn’t make any sense at this price. I just wanted to share it, and see what other people thought about it.
