Would be interested in knowing what kind of future projects we’re thinking about?
Other than a potential matrix server, I do not currently have anything in mind. The future is unpredictable.
An example of a non-profit effort that I took on in the past is COVID PPE 3D printing with volunteer community printers. If something like that was needed for pandemic or disaster relief again would be nice to not have to go through the trouble of spinning up a new non-profit.
I think we can definitely work with Canadian Open Source Communication Association. Maybe swap out Communication for Community.
I’ve reached out to both the mstdn.ca admin as well as the CIRA.
Lemmy.ca is hosted on OVHcloud as they have a Canadian data center. If you’re not specifically looking for a Canadian server, there’s many other options that are priced more attractively.
I never had COVID until everyone stopped caring about it. I’m on my 4th time having now.
Do not recommend.
I really don’t believe their story that they are going to actually have enough crew available to have every single vessel in the fleet sailing.
I’ll believe it when I see it
This Request has been granted.
I guess there is a question about how well moderated a community is if no one checks in for 5 days.
This is exactly where the 5 days comes from.
The issue we’re facing is there are some active communities that are getting reports where the current moderators are not active, not dealing with reports, and not responding to communication from admins.
While it’s workable on a small scale, as admins we shouldn’t be defacto relief moderators, and really shouldn’t be enforcing any community specific rules.

Average amount of on the job training a driver gets when hired is probably half a shift. You’re expected to know and be able to do it without any additional training.
I think that’s totally wrong and bullshit but that’s what’s going on out there. Where I work it’s 4-6 weeks full time for a driver with experience, 6 weeks to 10 weeks or so usually for a new driver, we’ve had at least one do 6 months+. We’re a definite outlier tho and probably do the most on the job training out of any trucking company in BC.
I’ll keep that in mind, and I’ve just had a realization, we can set up all the donation options and just not “cash out” until we’re determined non-profit status and how we’re going to set up the financial side of it.
Thanks for the kind words! @[email protected] has been amazing.
> You guys are amazing and I’m more than happy with the subscribed donation I’ve given to your instance.
Just so you know with the transition to the new team all prior donation subscriptions have been cancelled and we’ve yet to set up a new system for donations.
We’ll let you all know when we have a new system up and running right now but it’s not high priority as we’re well funded for at least the next 6 to 9 months if we don’t have explosive growth.
6 months isn’t enough.
I would say so. And I would argue not knowing the height of your truck is negligence, and if that causes you to hit an overpass then well you should be held liable.
As a driver myself, I think if it’s deemed that the driver’s negligence was the main contributing factor, they should be personally liable.
The whole point is that is to send a STRONG message to the unprofessional drivers that if they don’t pickup the slack and fuck up, the rest of their life might be destroyed.
My theory is that since COVID, the bar for how shitty/unprofessional a driver can be and continue to be employed has gone down significantly due to a severe and worsening shortage of drivers.
I know of one driver with 11 points on their license and zero class 1 driving experience that was hired by a reputable company recently. Another one with a rather fresh 2 month suspension and bunch of points got hired by a very reputable company too. Most companies used to want clean record, shady ones would be ok with 6-9 points. Now it’s a free for all.
Industry is fucked.
Haha if I strike a bridge we’ve got some big big problems considering I drive tankers.
Yes it will need to be redone.
