The hay day for the American dream was in homes that were about 1,000 sq ft. The average home today is around 2,500, all while people are getting married later and having smaller families.
Maybe the reason the American dream seems so hard to reach these days, is because it has inflated to these insane levels.
It’s wild. Granted I don’t want kids, but I can’t imagine wanting more than a 2 bed/2 bath. Main bedroom, guest bedroom/office, and a finished basement assuming that’s feasible where I end up. Don’t want to deal with cleaning more than that.
